I'm interested in becoming a volunteer on the site, if you're looking for help. If I missed the page with relevant information, I would appreciate a link. If not, I'd like it if someone could contact me about whether or not you're accepting help and how I can help. Unfortunately college freshmen (myself included) typically don't have much to offer as far as donations are concerned.

Well, if you'd like to volunteer, just get in there and start helping out, really. Reading over the articles at the site is highly recommended, as is not giving advice on things you don't know anything about. But really, if you'd like to help just jump in and start answering questions.
(huge caveat: don't post an answer unless you're sure you know the answer. It causes the volunteers more trouble to correct you than to just answer it themselves--and it's not like anyone knows everything, anyway.)
As far as donations go, they're really all appreciated. Even if it's $1, it helps!
Also, if you're a good writer, ST is always taking submissions of interesting (and factually accurate -- so if you're using stats or scientific facts, references and sources are preferred) articles.
