Can someone just explain the science to me a bit more; like does the illness have to have occurred before ovulation, and not after?
Is the delay in the period caused by a delay in ovulation; like you're ill so the body isn't ready to prepare an egg like that until after the illness is gone?

When there's stress on the body, be it through illness or anything else, the body reacts differently. It's possible that ovulation doesn't occur when it usually does because of this stress, but it doesn't have to be that. Our bodies are complex systems of chemicals and hormones and when something's off, it can throw everything else off. Since there are so many different chemicals and hormones, there are countless ways this can happen.
