I just wanted to correct some information that was given about pregnancy tests and hcg levels in the Ask an Expert area that was a little bit off (I don't really know where to do it--I hope that this is okay).

Hcg levels continue to grow throughout pregnancy. Hcg pretty much doubles every 2 days during early pregnancy; women who are at risk for miscarriage or other problems often have quantitative blood tests (that actually measure the amount of hcg rather than just its presence) done to ensure that their hcg is continuing to double. If it's noticed that it drops off or isn't growing, then it's often seen as a sign of miscarriage. Super high levels of hcg early on may indicate twins.

Some women simply take longer to produce high enough levels of hcg to be detected by a pregnancy test, since everybody's bodies work differently.

anyway, hope this helps...

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'll leave a note in the Advocate Area so the staff can look it over, and we'll get back to you. [Smile]

... and what do you know, someone had already caught it before you even posted! We keep tabs on one another to make sure our information is accurate, 'cause slip-ups do happen.

We've removed the error and are working on posting a relevant answer. Thanks for helping us keep an eye out!

(And just bear in mind in the future, a forum like "Staff Stuff" or the contact form is a better place when you catch errors on the site or boards. [Smile] )
