It's a given that here at Scarleteen, we do what we can to support and encourage everyone, no matter their age, to become pregnant only when they actively choose to, and to do so at a point when they really feel prepared to be not only a parent, but a good parent.

That said, unplanned pregnancy happens a lot, and parenting seems the best choice for a given woman, and sometimes teens even become pregnant and parent by expressly planning to. And that just does not have to be a tragedy, a death sentence OR a horrible thing for a Mom or her kid.

Certainly, even in the best of circumstances, there are some harsh realities and tough challenges. And teen parenting, for plenty of young women, does wind up with a lot of less-than-wonderful results.

But not always. Often enough, too, teen moms are GREAT moms who raise happy, healthy, great kids AND still have their own other achievements and successes.

We talk about the harsher stuff a lot more, and there's plenty of it out there. Let's be sure we also fill a thread like this with reporting, supporting and sharing the good stuff. [Smile]

Beppie linked to this today in a different thread, which is a great start: "Charlotte Savage describes getting pregnant at 16 as the 'best thing that ever happened to her'. In less than a year, she went from a school drop-out to an ambitious teenager training to become a primary school teacher."
