hi scarleteen!
I recently had a pregnancy scare that was attributed more so to my birth control pills rather than sex.
I had skipped my period one month by skipping my placebo pills and continuing onto my next pack, then missed it again, until this past pack (I think).
I have a very irregular period and have my period (normal flow) usually during my active pills. this last "period" I had was during my placebo week. my periods have always been a normal flow, however this one was really light and brown and came and went over the course of 3 days. I had light cramping during this time and some spotting leading up to the "period".
my question is, should I still be worried about taking a pregnancy test or does this sound like a period?

If you've taken three packs back to back without a withdrawal bleed, then that is very likely to be the reason for your irregular bleeding. Taking the pill in a manner other than directed can cause spotting and irregular bleeding.

If you want to double-check, however, youn can still go ahead and take a pregnancy test.

Lastly, had you cleared this manner of taking the pill with your prescribing doctor? If not, that is really something you want to do next time when you are considering something like this.

my period has been irregular for almost a year now, even on the pill. in this case, I took two packs without bleeding. I maybe even went one whole pack without bleeding like I was supposed to when skipping the placebo pills.
I have talked to my doctor and I have switched pills [Smile]
