Hi, this may be an issue unrelated to the topics usually discussed here (i.e. sexual health) but this site has been very useful to me in the past and I am not sure where else to do.

My sister is a cutter, she has been cutting for at least a year. I don't know much about it but I try to be supportive and intelligent about it and don't hassle her a lot. Last night she cut herself very deeply by accident and I had to take her to the emergency room. She almost severed a nerve connection of some sort. She says she has been getting better after going to her councilor but I just don't know. My parents don't know how to deal with it either and keep trying to 'talk' to her about it in idiotic ways that only make the stress worse for her.

My question is, do you know any resources available for family members of people who cut so that they can better understand what they should do and why people cut?

You could try the phone line and support website listed in this thread:

By the way, it sounds like you've been a great support for your sister and that she's lucky to have you around. Hope you have people you trust to talk to for support as well?
