I tried looking online for the possible cause but none seemed very informed and most simply stated that they are having the same problem.

So I'm on birth control, my periods have always been very regular almost to a point that I know at what time of the day they're likely to start. So everything is normal, I end my pack, I get my period in a few days like normal, I end my period in about 6 days like normal (in this case on Friday), however because I was then summoned to be elsewhere for a few days I couldn't take my BC because I forgot it at home. I didn't think it was a big deal since my birth control is for period control and acne.
However I just started my period again!

Could it be caused by the fact I took a few BC pills and then had a few days worth of gap? Or should I worry? I have a gynecologist appointment next Tuesday and they said that I should be clear off my period 5 days prior. [Frown]

Anytime you miss pills, spotting is likely to occur. It's completely normal and should resolve itself after a few days. Nothing to worry about :]

Is it normal for it to be heavier than usual flow and more thick? I thought spotting was light flow or literally spotting, just a little bit blood here and there. Mine is pretty consistent.
I'm worried it'll affect my gyn appointment since I was meant to be off my period for at least 5 days prior to it.

It's a range, so I don't think we can say there's a normal here, just like flow with periods is a big range.

If you're worried about this impacting your appointment, how about you just call in and ask?
