RE: my breast question in body and soul, i saw a doctor and she has changed my contraceptive pill to the progestogen only pill, Cerazette. It should still work the way my other combined pill did, but how much does everyone else trust progestogen pills? its also a 28day pill cycle so should i still trust it? i may not have a period eventually whilst on it.
Cerazette is the only POP made to inhibit ovulation as effectively as the combined pill. It even has the same grace period as combined pills at 12 hours = late; most POP's have three, and then one must back up for 48 hours-one week.
So, you're right that the effectiveness is about on par with the combined pill, except for the amenorrhea/cycle disturbances you may experience due the lack of estrogen.
(So, while asargent was correct about MOST POP's, Cerazette is different. )
Well, putting you on the pill in the first place was an error, because the pill does nothing to correct the underlying cause of the irregularity. It would be like a plumber turning off your water altogether if you had a leaky faucet, but supplying you with all the water you need. It can't be practical forever, and once you stop using the artificial source, you have the same problem.
On the same vein, (I hope you get the weird metaphor, there), it's faulty logic to treat an irregular ovulation by turning it off altogether. If you're at an age where your periods should have been getting regular, the doc should have investigated a cause. If not, you should have been reassured it's normal, then asked if you need contraceptive protection PLUS a normal artificial cycle!
But, onto the question at hand; yes, the minipill has the unfortunate side effect of unpredictable bleeding patterns. Cerazette is more likely than the others to stop bleeding or cause erraticness because it prevents ovulation so frequently. One should expect similar bleeding patterns as a method like the implant or shot.
