So last Saturday I hooked up with a biter who has a thing for lower lips... He pretty much chewed mine off. It was about three times it's normal size when I left, so I iced it on Sunday and the swelling went down. But now it's horribly chapped and really tender - I can't put any pressure on the left side of my lip at all without extreme pain.

I've been using Burt's Bees pretty much constantly, but all it does is coat my lips in goo which makes them look and feel even worse. To make matters worse, I'm in Colorado at 6000ft elevation, a very dry climate. Does anyone have any other suggestions besides chapstick?

Vaseline. Put it on overnight, and that'll help with the dryness. Chapstick is good for during the day - it's not too gooey but still gives your lips some moisture.

Really, lip balm is going to be your best bet. You may want to look into getting Caramex or something similar (vaseline makes some balm for chapped lips I believe) - the Caramex especially, similar to the Burts Bees, is going to sting, but it does work.

Unfortunately, with badly chapped lips (whether from cuts or bites or sun or wind burn) you just have to lip with feeling gooey and unpleasent for a few days or so until the cracks start healing.

And trust me on dry - I'm further down South, but in the mountains, and knowing the Colorado Springs/Denver area well, I can relate. [Smile]

Good luck - and if this should ever come up again? Just tell him to cool it on your lips.

Sounds like you don't have chaps, so much as wounds.

(And also like this guy could maybe use a reminder that you do need your lips for your daily life, so he should maybe chill with the gnawing some.)

I believe that neosporin has a treatment expressly for lip wounds. I'd go ask your pharmacist if they have it and use that rather than chapstick.

(Aie! Triple post! I'd still vote for a treatment meant to deal with wounds that's also a topical antibiotic, though, if you have serious abrasions or actual cuts and scrapes.)

Thanks so much, guys! I dug through my vanity drawer and found some Vaseline Lip Therapy Advanced Formula, so I'll slather it on good tonight and hope for the best.

Thanks again!
