Is it possible for tobacco smoking to be the direct cause of a sore throat? I know this may seem like an odd question but context is all etc.

Not only is tobacco smoking a direct cause of a sore throat (it is an irritant), it is a direct cause of death. It is the only product I know which is lethal to the user when used as directed.

Thank you, do you know what part of the cigarette is the irritant, is it the tobaco itself? And whether the sore throat would be short or long term?
At the risk of sounding pedantic technically its an indirect cause of death

How about the fact that you're breathing smoke down your throat?! And it's not just tobacco smoke; the cigarette companies frequently add other things to the mix to change the flavor, thing which may or may not add to the existing toxic effects. smoke paralyzes the cilia in your throat. cilia are hairlike cell appendages that sway back and forth when they're healthy. they sweep crud out of your throat. when you smoke, the cilia stop working, cells in your throat can die off or become cancerous. and your throat can't clear itself of the dust, bacteria, viruses, toxins and all around crud that collects there. No wonder you have a sore throat, all that awful stuff is piling up in your throat and can't get out. This is why smokers often have to hock up spit and cough a lot because they can't naturally clear their throats.

You say it paralyzes the cilia, do you mean permanently, or if after you quit smoking, will the cilia become useful again?
