Last Thursday I found out that my boyfriend had cheated on me and he left me for another woman. We are still talking and on relatively good terms considering the circumstances, but I find that I haven't really been able to eat solid foods since the day I found out. I tried to eat solid food, but it makes me feel really, terribly sick and I often throw up a half an hour or so after eating. I can hardly even look at most foods without feeling queasy. For six days I've been subsiding on mostly liquids and I'm getting used to the hunger pangs. What on earth is wrong with me? Do you have any idea what I can do about it? People are getting a bit worried.

It just sounds to me like you're very upset.

What I'd suggest, since you can do the liquids, is starting to add some smoothies and protein shakes so that you get some nutrients, and so that your tummy can warm itself beck up to solid foods. Baby food, odd as it sounds, is another option: the fruit ones don't taste heinous.

But since it's been near a week, if you can't start moving yourself back into eating by the end of this week, I'd suggest talking to your doctor.

It might also help just to really talk about what happened. If you want to do that, we're happy to listen.

Luckily, he and I talked about all of the things that were bothering me last night and we had a pretty productive conversation. I can kind of eat again, though it does still make me feel a little sick, I'm no longer vomitting. Thank you for the smoothie idea, I did that you up on that and it really helped me get my energy back. [Smile]
