I was just wondering if ovarian cysts could be hereditary. My mom had one a few years ago, and I've just found out that my aunt has it (her sister). Is there any way that I could prevent a cyst on my ovaries? Thanks

Ha... I just posted on this. I had one last year, and was told that they are not hereditary if they're the simple, benign kind. And they occur in women of child bearing age with varying levels of frequency, so it's nothing to worry about.

You don't need to do anything to prevent them; they just happen, most of the time.
However, there are types of malignant (cancerous) cysts that have been shown to be hereditary. Even if someone in your family has had cancer, it doesn't mean you'll get it.
Nothing to worry about.

This being said, healthy eating/exercise will keep a lot of things from getting of whack as far as your body is concerned. Including preventing cancer to some degree, as some studies have shown.
