I want to get my belly button peirced, but i'm affriad that if i decide to take the peircing out forever that i will be left with an ugly scar. I would like to hear some results of others that took their peircing out, or know any one that did, and if they were left with a scar.

It doesn't usually leave a scar per say, but it does leave a hole. You can still see the hole in the skin even after you take the piercing out.

Self peircing is never a good idea, for the record.

Angie, peircing or not, scars give you character, and each has a story. They're not ugly, they're unique. I have one on my chest from when I was a child, in addition to all the other smallish scars over my body. So, don't sweat the scars. Everyone has em, just some get them photoshopped out in the glossies.

I'd definitely go for the piercing. Dark Child's absolutely right, scars add to the story of your life and all that jazz. I've had my navel pierced twice. The first time I didn't let it heal before changing it (which really is a bad idea), so the hole got really messed up and eventually it started bleeding, so I took it out and it wouldn't go back in. I decided to do it the right way the next time I got it done, not changing it, and washing it every day, but one day I came home from work, and the ring was gone, I was so disappointed. I have a small scar, but it's not ugly, it's just kind of obvious that I've had it pierced before. I'm sure the scarring could be reduced with neosporin, vitamin E, etc, but I've never bothered. So that long-assed story just to say that if you really want the piercing, it's worth the minimal scarring that may or may not happen later. Good luck!

Self piercing is very popular among the girls at my school. Almost everyone has done at least one piercing themselves. But a lot of those people have gotten pretty bad infections. DarkChild is right, self piercing is NOT a good idea.

I had to take my navel piercing out in October for a surgery, and by the time I was concious enough to put it back in, the hole had closed. So, I have a mark right now that looks like a dimple. Mine is a bit exacerbated because during healing, my piercing migrated a little.

But as far as scarring goes, it will eventually heal to the point where the only mark left is a small dimple, assuming healing the actual piercing goes well. If it gets infected or something goes wrong, the chances of having a nasty scar are much higher. You won't be left with a permanent hole or anything, so don't worry about that, and Vitamin E oil, massages and any other scar-lessening treatment should help reduce the apperance though.

But you shouldn't worry-if you follow the aftercare correctly, you should have no problems. Go for it!

And FYI, correct aftercare DOES NOT involve changing the jewelry before 6 months has passed, playing with the jewelry, or using anything other than diluted liquid dial soap and sea salt soaks to clean it.

Well, I took mine out about 5 months ago and I still have a scar. If you really want a belly peircing, go for it. Just make sure that you want one. It might not leave a scar if you use neosporin (sp?) or anything like that but I'm not sure.
