this is going to sound pretty stupid, but i saw once, in a porn movie, that a guy stopped himself from ejaculating by grabbing his scrotum where it attatched to his body.

is this actually possible?
does it cause any harm?

thanx.

semen is made in a few different parts of the body. but most of the fluid volume is produced in the prostate, which comes after all the stuff in the scrotum. and when men approach orgasm, the sperm from the scrotum travel up into the ampulla (a holding tank for sperm located inside the body, not the scrotum). so if he grabbed his scrotum just as he hit orgasm, all the seminal components were already past that point.

as a secondary note, if a man is attentive enough, which seems not to be the case during masturbation (more important things to think about), he can actually feel the seminal fluid move from the epididymis into the ampulla. but like i said, i can only guess that there would other sensations worth paying attention to.

Actually I've heard of a technique that's sort of like that...just got to be careful where and how you grab. It's supposed to delay ejactulation but not prevent it per se.

Stopping an Ejaculation just before it actually happens, by forcing it to stop with your hands or such, is actually rather dangerous and can seriously harm you. I would NOT suggest doing that, as the Semen then is left with no place to go, too far out to return to the scrotum so it just floats there or can even find it's way into your bladder which means some big trouble. If you DO stop an ejaculation like that, go to the bathroom as soon as possible. If you stop with your mind, that's fine, but don't forcefully stop it, thats bad. It also makes you feel rather bad for a while, I did it once, before I learned this and it was very...umm..frustrating in lack of a better word.

Hey Jag, funny how you should mention semen going into the bladder. That's called retrograde ejeaculation. I had a discussion with my human reproduction professor on the matter, asking whether retrograde ejaculation posed any significant health problems. one would figure so, right?

Well, according to him, retrograde ejaculation actually in itself is *not* harmful to a man's health. It's a problem experienced by many diabetic males, who for some reason or another cannot coordinate their urogenital muscles dut to their condition. The significant problem posed by retrograde ejaculation is actually infertility.

The treatment is interesting, though. These men can only produce offspring via in vitro fertilization (combining egg and sperm in a petri dish). They prepare their female partners for the procedure with the usual hormones. Then, the doctors instruct the male patient to ejaculate (quiet room alone in the clinic, y'know...). Then the man is given a cup to pee in. The urine-semen mix is centrifuged to separate out the sperm cells. The sperm are harvested and used to fertilized the woman's ovum and injected into the woman's womb. And tada! They (may) have a baby.

And if you think my answer is full of it, take it up with my professor, Dr. Charles Nicoll.
