Ok, as many of you know I've posted numerous things about exercising and/or eating and/or diets. I always said that I would never starve myself nor make myself throw up to lose weight. Lately I have found that I am doing something quite different. Let me first say, I enjoy eating baby food (mixed fruit)..here's how my days have been going:
*I don't eat breakfast
*I have 1 jar of baby food for lunch and that is all
*I eat my regular dinner
*I have no snacks

Also, since my mom would notice that I am not eating anything else for lunch, I crumble up 2 peices of bread and 2 slices of turkey, put the peices in napkins, and throw them away. This is so she wouldn't wonder why no bread is missing..so she doesn't know I'm only eating baby food for lunch
My question is..is this bad, and does it sound like I am bordering an eating disorder?

Thanks everyone.

Well, it doesn't sound too healthy to me. First off, it's actually better for you to eat larger amounts earlier in the day, because then you have the chance to use the energy you've eaten. By eating dinner a your largest meal, you're giving yourself calories when you need them least-- right before you go to sleep. There's nothing wrong with eating baby food, but you'd use your calories more efficiently (and have more energy) if you ate a larger breakfast and lunch.

Ashley, we have told you countless, countless, countless times. Make an appointment with your doctor to discuss an exercise regimen and a diet plan. Do not go on a foolish baby food diet. Or rather stop fussing over diets and find something better to do with your time. Get a job or a hobby, volunteer at a daycare center, do something productive and good for your self-esteem. Creating your own fad diets is not going to result in anything positive.

Ashley,

Wanting to look good and feel good about ourselves is a positive thought. What you're doing clearly isn't positive, although you seem to feel good about it. But, there is a way for you to lose weight - eat regular balanced meals with plenty of fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water. This plus exercise is the healthiest, safest way to lose weight.

Ash, keep in mind that the average teenage girl needs about 1500-2500 calories a day, depending on their height, weight, and level of activity. You're coming in at 1000, max, providing that the regular dinner you're having is about 900 calories which is alot.

Baby food is a good thing to eat - for babies. It often doesn't have the concentration of vitamins that growing teenage girls need, and if you eat it too much without other chewy foods, it's detrimental to your teeth b/c you'll lose the ability to chew.

Here's a link to a site with all kinds of descriptions of major eating disorders. Your secretive behavior regarding lunch (turkey sandwiches) can be regarded by many specialists as symptomatic of an eating disorder, even though you're not throwing up or taking drugs to lose weight. http://www.edreferral.com/

Also, here's a link to sites with symptoms of eating disorders and characteristics of each one. Try going through them to see if you match up with any symptoms. http://www.mentalhealthchannel.net/eatingdisorders/anorexia/symptoms.shtml

Please, Ash, talk to a parent or friend about this so you can prevent any problems.

Take care, and hope this helps.

well, ashley, even you suspect something is wrong with your eating habits. thing is, what you are doing simply isn't healthy.

baby food does not offer the nutrition needed by adults. also, you are eating less during the day, which i presume are your active hours. instead, you eat dinner, which then gets stored up when you sleep. wouldn't it be better to ease up on dinner, and eat a healthier lunch? the answer is yes.

we've told you repeatedly that the way to maintain a healthy diet is to eat properly, lots of fruits and vegetables and a good balance of starch and protein. then go to the doctor and see about starting a new exercise routine.

the fact of the matter is, you won't get the results fast, but you will get them. and you won't get them with any harful side effects.

Listen to these people Ashley- they are giving you sound advice. The one and a half meals you are eating per day is just not enough- I don't know what your definition of starving yourself is, but that little food equates to starving in my book. It's not worth it, just to live up to some ephemeral ideal of society. If you are unhealthy because of your weight, then as my fellow Advocates have already told you to do, see a doctor for a sensible diet and exercise plan.

Sweetie, healthy is not about height and weight (unless your doctor has indicated that it is something that is potentially dangerous for you). Healthy is about how you feel. All that crap about an average height and weight, that was never meant to be used so you could try to make your weight fit the "perfect" weight for your height. Those numbers are just an average that was designed so that doctors could estimate the amount of medicine to give you if you are in an accident. The can measure your height laying down, estimate your weight based on the average and get you the help you need. Your weight is based on so many things other than your height that it's not even funny anyway!

Go see a doctor if you're worried about your weight. Talk to them about eating healthy and exercising. And for goodness sake, get off that stupid babyfood diet, because you're only asking for trouble. Chronic eating disorders, bone degeneration, chronic fatigue, tooth loss...all these can be yours for the price of just one babyfood jar + one meal a day. Seriously hun, talk to someone about this before it gets way out of control.

whoa, ashley, even according to the numbers on the charts at my dad's office, you are UNDERWEIGHT for a small framed person at 5'3".

please be careful with the way you treat your body. you obviously recognize there's a problem with your eating habits, and you ask us if there's something wrong. we tell you there's something wrong. please believe us, believe your intuition. we can't simply tell you something just to make you feel better, that wouldn't help anybody at all, in fact, it could be downright dangerous to you health and maybe the health of others.

Dearie, listen to the great advise everyone has given you.

You know that you are NOT giving your little body machine enough enegry here when it needs it. The diet you describe is unhealthy, one sided, and simply not balanced. The problem is this: instead of burning fat (and you loosing weight, that - I think, you don't need to loose anyway), your little body machine goes into sleep mode and burns very little energy. Your metabolism slows down. And that is NOT healthy.

Gummy said it well - your intuition tells you that what you're doing is NOT healthy. Hiding frm your mother that you are not eating is NOT alright and shows you are not happy with what you are doing, so treat your body well and have a doc check this out and help you to get on a healthy, balanced diet and to start excercising in a nice balanced way, too.
