hello. i read somewhere that the pill might not be as effective if you weigh over 155 lbs because it takes in the hormones much faster then if you weigh below that. This worries me because i would like to go on the pill but i weigh over 155 lbs. do you know if this is true or not or should i talk to my gyn? IP: Logged |

I weigh over 155 pounds and am on a brand of birth control pills, I know lots of women who weigh over 155 pounds who are also on birth control pills, and they work just fine for us. Talk to your gynecologist about birth control -- I'm willing to bet he or she will confirm that that fact is not true. IP: Logged |

hey erin, i saw the article she was talking aobut, and i think i have a general idea of where they were going with it. for anyone interested in knowing, the hormones in birth control pills are steroidal. They dissolve in lipids (fats ad oils). For some people with a higher percentage of body fat, the hormones can parse into their bodies faster and metabolize. if anything, this isn't a specific weight issue so much as an issue of the composition of a person's body. even so, this would be easily remedied by prescribing a stronger dose of hormones. so yeah, you still have to go thru the standard drill of talking to your doctor, seeing which pills would suit your body best, and see if they work. ------------------ IP: Logged |
