A friend of mine has been on Depo-Provera for several years, and said that she found the shots pretty excruciating. She is on a more concentrated dose than normal, and since I'm thinking of going on DP myself, I was wondering if her problems were due to the more concentrated fluid or if the injections are normally that painful (I'm an absolute wimp when it comes to shots). Has anyone out there had a similar experience with Depo? IP: Logged |

well when i was on depo i got it in my arm, i really hate shots, my arm would stay sore for at least a week but when you think about it you are going through that for a really good reason. you are protecting yourself from pregnancy. dont you think it is worh it? ------------------ IP: Logged |

While the end results may be worth some temporary discomfort, it's a good idea to take that into consideration when determining your birth control method. If you hate shots to the point where you're going to be reluctant to get one every three months this might not be the method for you. If you haven't already going through Margaret Sanger's Disneyland - An easy chart of your birth control options may be helpful. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Thanks - I did look at that page ![]() I was on the Pill over the summer and that drove me up the wall (no memory for scheduling pill. whatsoever.), and while condoms are working quite well for me now, I'd really like to have some sort of backup. I think it'd be worth the discomfort - I just wanted to see if it would be something I'd actually have to worry about, or if my friend was an exception becuase she isn't on a typical dosage. Thanks for the help IP: Logged |

Just a thought: have you considered the patch or Nuvaring? They might solve the scheduling problem, without requiring shots .

I may think about the Nuvaring...I'd seen that on the list, but somehow it didn't occur to me to consider it. I'll see if our health center does those. The patch would be a really convenient option, except I would pull it off out of general nervous twitching within a day
