Have people had problems using condoms -- and by problems, I mean any complications, from start to finish? Tell us about them, tell us how you solved them, or let us help you brainstorm a solution!

One of my partners has a problem with ring size on condoms -- while a condom can certainly stretch to cover a whole forearm, the ring size causes him discomfort in getting the condom on and wearing it. So we're trying some condoms with larger ring sizes and larger sizes in general (just got some Kimono Maxx and some Inspirals, which look like little rocket ships!) to see if that helps.

Anyone else?

My partner and I had some issues with a couple boxs of Durex condoms. The quality wasn't an issue at all, they seemed to be very good quality...the problem was that something about the condom just didn't fit right. The ring size was alright, but the rest of it just seemed a bit big. Things just weren't staying where they belonged (specifically ejaculate), especially afterward. Which can be more than a bit scary, especially when you don't know exactly why or when things were doing that.

Our solution was to just to scrap the Durex and try a new brand. Now lest I be accused of wasting perfectly good condoms , we didn't throw them out, I decided they were perfectly suited for keeping sex toys clean. We switched over to Kimono's, and haven't had a problem since then. I don't think there was anything faulty about the Durex, and I do recommend them to people still...they just didn't fit my partner.

My boyfriend and I had a problem where the condom actually fell off inside of me. It was stuck there for about 10 hours because I couldn't get it out, and I was too upset to let him help me. I ended up getting a yeast infection because of this.

The condom didn't do it's job .. and I didn't really do anything about it. I just kinda waited it out. I guess I'm okay..

just to address erinpinkhair's post.

i had that happen once. you gotta be able to stop panicking just long enough to get it out! why? because it's called condom failure. semen can leak out of the condom and cause infections and accidental pregnancy. You don't usually need to go to the emergency room to get the condom out. as awkward as it may seem, you can reach in there with your hand or a long sterile cotton swab and pull it out. is this *really* awkward? well, considering you and your partner probably know each other reasonably intimately (you did have sex, after all), your private parts should not be a surprise to either of you.

anyway after that's taken care of, it's a good idea to get emergency contraception (within 72 hours, of course).

how to prevent this in the first case? make sure the ring isn't too tight, and don't use too much lube on the inside of the condom.

thank you very much for the helpful hint. It actually got stuck way too far up for me to reach, and i was to humiliated to let him help, i wanted to fix it myself... but ended up just resorting to him.

it actually didn't do it's job at all, it fell off before anything could get caught in it. I lucky did not get pregnant. It was a scarey experience though and extrememly stressfull. I'm planning on going on birth control after my period is over.

Thanks for all of the advice.
