Just recently my boyfriend and I bought some K-Y Jelly with spermicide. I was suprised to find that it had to be inserted into the vagina with an aplicator. I thought you could just put some on the condom and a little on the inside. Since it is inside you is that supposed to help prevent pregnancy if the condom were to break?? We used a lubricated condom AND I inserted it inside me....I was just curious! Thanx, you're the best!!

Chicka,
There are two types of KY on the market: that in a tube (which is what you used) with spermicide, and that in a bottle, which is liquid.

I personally dsson't advise spermicides, because many people are allergic to them (they are dish detergent, basically), which makes for a higher risk of disease transmission. But what you did with the one you have is correct, and theoretically, you've got the purpose down, too.

In the future, my advice is always (and this is mainly a personal preference from my experience and what I know about condoms and lubricants) to use an UN lubricated condom, with a little latex-safe lubricant (like Astroglide, KY Liquid, Aqua Lube, etc) inside the condom, and plenty of it outside. When you do that, so long as you keep your lubrication level in check and add more if you get dry, the condom is unlikely to break. because you aren't using a substance which is likely to irritate your vaginal tissues, you are also well-protected from disease.

Well, from what we experienced I don't think either one of us are alergic to spermicide. Unless you wouldn't be able to tell! So, if we both know we don't have any diseases and we are not allergic is it a good-safe thing to use??

There really is no bona fide way of knowing -- even with testing -- that anyone is completely free of disease, so I can't really answer to that.

As far as safe, sure. As far as what works best in terms of lubrication, liquids usually work better than gel formulations.
