a pregnancy test will work 10 days after unprotected sex. just to be sure, you should buy 2 tests and take the first one 10 days after you had sex, and the other one a week after that. just to make sure.

Boys and girls in America have such a sad time together; sophistication demands that they submit to sex immediately without proper preliminary talk. Not courting talk - real straight talk about souls - for life is holy and every moment is precious. I heard the Denver and Rio Grande locamotive howling off in the mountains. Actually, home pregnancy tests cannot detect hCG (the pregnancy hormone) until the day your period should have started or any time after that. So, if you had sex 15 daus before your period was due, and tested 10 days later, the test would be useless.

Wait until your period is due. When you are a day late, buy two tests, and take one. If its negative, wait a week and take the other one.

In the future, you won't have to go through all this horrible fear and stress if you practice safer sex - a condom, and one other form of birth control.

You should read this, it's very informative:

here's the deal: a test will work 10 days after conception. conception could occur the day of the incident, or 17 days later, or anytime in between. there's no way of knowing.

SO the best thing to do is take a test 10 days after the incident, if you want to test early, and then test again when your period is late.

it is NOT true that a pregnancy test will not work until your period is late. it doesn't make biological sense.

Here are the instructions from a popular pregnancy test:

EPT can detect hCG hormone levels in your urine as early as the day your period should have started. EPT can be used on the day of your missed period as well as any day thereafter.

Most over-the-counter tests require a level of 40 - 50mlU/ml of hCG to detect pregnancy. This will NOT be detectable until several weeks after you think conception may have occurred.

There are more sensitive tests, but fewer of them make up the popular over-the-counter brands.

Here's a list:
http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hpt.html

Bottom line: read the back of the box

EPT detected hCG in my urine about 11 days after an incident, and before I was due to have my period.

So. If you're worried, take the test 10-14 days after the incident, then when you're due for your period. You can't be too sure.
