Okee. I need some ideas for names. The middle name has already been decided upon - Brian. I can't find a name that flows well with it at all, and my boyfriend is dead set on Eric, and I'm not particularily keen on it. so if you have any suggestions, post 'em up. I could use the help. IP: Logged |

Do you have a nationality or specific language in mind? (I can be good at this - being a fiction writer, I have to come up with cool names all the time) IP: Logged |

Over at http://www.parentsoup.com they have a baby name finder that will let you combine names with middle names and surnames and the like. Eric Brian doesn't do much for me, either. Hm. let me think. erin IP: Logged |

We're trying to keep it fairly north-american, if ya know what i mean. He's part scot, part irish, part native.... mostly canadian - and i'm just mostly canadian with a bit of polish thrown in. so yeah, we're sort of hoping to keep it mainstream-ish. IP: Logged |

So I take it you don't want something unusual? I think when I was at college, in my class we has something like 5 Richards, 4 Lukes and 7 Michaels So I became determined that if/when I have a child, it's going to be seriously different...entropie [This message has been edited by entropie (edited 09-25-2002).] IP: Logged |

Well, on the Gaelic front, I am a huge fan of Seamus, but a lot of people mispronounce it (poor kid getting called see-mus), so I'm reserving it to terrorize my own son with. There is also the gaelic Fionn (pronounced fin), Colm, Colin, Aidan (I've always liked that one), Conaill (pronounced kaw-nul), Conor, Tiernan (pronounced tear-nan)... IP: Logged |

Aidan is pretty cool. I'll put it on my list. See, the thing about naming is, i didn't want to do anything TOO popular, easy to spell, easy to pronounce -- That way we don't have any problems with people mis-pronouncing or anything. I go by my middle name, and it messed me up ALL through school, because teachers would always call me by my first name, and i'd be there... staring out the window, not realising that the teacher was talking to me. Here's the list of names i made last year around this time: Damien Some things you might want to keep in consideration are the letters in the beginning and end of all of the baby's names. IP: Logged |

I don't really know any yets yet, but... 1. I would suggest using a first name with more than two syllables, or monsyllabic. What I'm trying to say is don't make them the same all throughtout the whole name. (Ex. I'm Allison Elizabeth. I don't really like Richard Brian because it's 2 and 2.) 2. I like Samuel, Joshua, and Timothy. I think Samuel Brian sounds nice. Same with Timothy Brian. Good luck! When you choose a name be sure to let us all know! ------------------ "A mistake is simply another way of doing things." The best website ever: www.evilrobots.com (I am related to the founder!) A woman in my department who just had a baby named him Aidan. He is very cute. The name sounds nice, especially when cooed at a small one. Hm. My potential baby names, as discussed with sweetie-with-whom-I-might-have-children: Simon Linus girl names that I like for no good reason, which are of no help to nancy unless they read that ultrasound *really* wrong... Auma (from the Redwall books) Oh, and I agree about the spelling thing, but, trust me, people will manage to misspell your name no matter what. I'm Erin (obviously), and I get the boy spelling all the time. One of my sweeties is named Allan, and he gets Alen, Alan, Allen, Alain... I won't even go into the last name saga. Suffice it to say that I'm considering hyphenation should I marry that sweetie just for the sheer amusement value. Of course, my brothers are named Paul, Michael, and Daniel, and those are pretty traditional. erin, completely unhelpful. :) IP: Logged |

Simon *is* a great name. I'm also very fond of Max, mainly because it seems to me that if you had a freind named Max, he'd be a very good guy. IP: Logged |

I think that Aiden Brian, Luke Brian, and Jacob Brian are all *really* nice. Here's one that I think hasnt been mentioned yet: Gabriel Brian. (Okay so I'm kinda partial to the name Gabriel cuz my boyfriend & my cousin are both named it... but I really do love that name). And Gabe is such a cute nickname. What do you think? IP: Logged |

Nicholas Brian? I've always liked the name Nicholas, not Nick though, yuck. I like Jonathan too but same deal, John is yuck. If I ever have a son I'm definitely picking one of these. James is nice, but not Jim. Michael is nice, however very common, Mike is bad. What is my problem? How about Matthew or Jeremy? IP: Logged |
