i had always adorned body art i have peircings and plans to have a tatto ...i have a new peircing in my ear well it' s my 13th time-> my new peircing ,just hurts not like my other peircing that doesn't actually
is it infected?and does a bellbutton peircing hurt..what are the surgical instruments used ?THANKS!

If it hurts, it may be infected ... The area around the piercing will be red and inflammed, and feel hot to the touch if it is infected. If you think it might be, you may want to see your doctor ... S/he may tell you to take the piercing out and let it heal over.

I believe bellybutton piercings are done with needles, the same way ears are. Whether it hurts or not really depends on your pain tolerance.

Also if you're piercing is infected it might have yellow or greenish pus oozing out of it. Don't mistake this with the clearish fluid that comes out of normal piercings. This is lymph that helps you heal.
If your piercing hurts and you just had it done this might just be normal post-procedure pain and irritation. Try not to play with it or touch it and soak it with warm salt water.
For navel piercings, new needles are used, like Lilbluesmurf said. Also, some piercers use clamps to hold the area while the pierce you.

In addition to what LilBlueSmurf and Emmajen have said, it also depends on where the piercing is, and how it was pierced.

If it is a piercing that passes through cartilage, then it is likely to be sore for longer an ear lobe piercing, because cartilage takes a little longer to heal than normal flesh. While most ear piercings can heal within 6-8 weeks, it isn't unusual for those that pass through cartilage to take a lot longer. I know that one of my own piercings, while supreficially healed, still gets tender if it gets knocked too hard

If it is a piercing that passes through cartilage, and it was done with a piercing gun, then you may have broken the cartilage. Have a professional piercer look at your ear, and they will be able to tell you straight away if anything is wrong, along with the best way to fix it.

In the mean time, continue to soak the piercing in warm salty water, and try not to sleep on it if possible.

when i had my belly button pierced they numbed the area with a numbing spray (i believe this is now illegal in england) and then they clamped the area of skin above my belly button. when this was done i think she got a big needle (and i mean big) i was laid down but from what i could see it was a lot wider than the needles used for injections believe me! after the skin was pierced the girl swabbed it down with an antiseptic and cleaned away what little blood there was. I was quite lucky apparently because i have tough skin that's quite toned so didnt really bleed but a few of my friends bled quite a bit. after she had cleaned it up she pushed hte bar through from the bottom and swabbed it again. Then she put a plaster over it and told me to keep it on for up to six hours just to ensure the piercing didnt bleed too much over my clothes if it did bleed. after that i was to be careful of physical activity for a few days especially doing sit ups or crunches. apart from that i was fine to carry on my karate training. It didnt really hurt that much after the aneasthetic wore off apart from being a bit irritated for a few days. I didnt really bruise much either but again one or two of my friends bruised and bled a fair amount for the first day or two. You'll need to clean it every morning after you've had a bath or shower and before you go to bed and you're supposed to avoid fiddling with it.

though of course having something poked through your belly button takes a bit of getting used to but i dont even notice mine anymore and sometimes even forget its there until someone says 'oh i didnt know you had your belly button pierced'.

When i got my bellybutton peirced, i didnt think it hurt at all, just your scared to go, it hurts a little for them to clamp it i think the needle just goes right through, its a little sore afterwards expecially if you lay on it, make sure to wash it or its really sick
