I always seem to have really bad breath.... it's really embarassing, and when I talk to people I kind of turn to the side and they can't even understand what I'm saying, sometimes. I brush my teeth and tongue in the mornings and at night. Is there anything else? I really like those new Listerine PocketPaks, but I can't seem to find them... *walks away* ![]() ------------------ "Only in America, where we can dream as big as we want to." i'm concious of my breath, too! like you, i brush and what not. what works for me is periodically breathing deeply through my mouth (when no one else is around, 'cause you look dorky doing it). And drink and rinse with water frequently when you can't brush. The point is to keep your mouth from getting stagnant. I also always have breath mints handy. I'm a big fan of Smint, Mentos and TicTacs. The worst of these is probably Mentos 'cause they're loaded with sugar which in the long run can aggravate bad breath by making those bacteria a little too happy. but for a quick fix, they're fine for me. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I chew either Arm and Hammer Dental Care or Aquafresh gum. They taste minty like toothpaste (although I think the Arm and Hammer comes in cinnamon too) and do a great job of killing the Post-Onion-Nasties for me. That and they're supposed to be good for your teeth. ![]() IP: Logged |

Are you drinking enough water? Eating enough fruits and veggies? I heard that helps. And also, cut down on the sugar. IP: Logged |

Did you know that 75% of people who think they have bad breath, don't? Just a little fact. ------------------ Akimsa (non-violence) ~Erin~ IP: Logged |

oh by the way- you said you couldn't find pocketpaks? they have them at walgreens. do you have a walgreens near where you live? yeah, those pocketpaks are cool but they have a weird texture. strangely appealing. oh by the way- do you floss? that might help. and when was the last time you got a professional teeth cleaning? I am paranoid about my breath and also do the 'talking with head slightly to side' thing. I haven't seen anyone about it because I'm scared they'll just confirm my fears that I smell like rancid stilton! Anyway, something that's supposed to help is drinking a lot of water, which I do anyway, but I don't know how effective it is. Try it and see! And (easier said than done) you might want to ask a good friend or family member whether or not your fears are justified. Might just take a load off your mind! ------------------ Witness the infinite justice of the new century. Civilians starving to death whilst waiting to be killed. IP: Logged |

When I want to check my breath, I cup my hands in front of my mouth and breath out. This breath test should let you know how bad your breath really is. Before talking to anybody, a breath mint or gum should be taken. IP: Logged |

quote: I don't think that's really necessary. I mean, i really dont' notice people's breath all that often when they're talking to me. Anyways, another way to check your breath, is lick your hand, let it dry and smell. And if you want better smelling breath, brush your tongue, but just with water, not toothpaste. ------------------ Akimsa (non-violence) ~Erin~ IP: Logged |

..and just another sidenote: besides eating healthily, brushing teeth & tongue (or using those old fashioned tongue cleaner things, but only one a day) and staying hydrated, another thing that helps in case of bad breath is a trip to the dentist: tooth problems can sometimes be the cause of bad breath, too.

Oh my, I also do that "talking to the side" thing. I've tried Listerine PocketPaks, but believe me - they don't work, after I use one, about 2 hours later it makes my breath even worse. I try not to drink a lot of water either because sometimes it makes the back of my mouth really smelly and that causes bad breath as well..oh yeah and when ur using breathmints make sure that u dont use them 24/7 like i did, i used a whole gum pack in one day because i felt that my breath was always bad smelling. umm...try brushing ur tongue...and also ur back teeth are important too, the back of ur mouth usually causes bad breath..what i do when i have bad breath is cover my mouth as i pretend to scratch my cheek and talk loudly, they can hear and plus they cant smell ur breath...so dont worry, i hope this all helps ![]() ------------------ IP: Logged |
