Hello fellow Scarleteen-ers. It seems to have happened again. My period has stopped dead in its tracksonce again! The most probable cause I am thinking is due to diet change and exersize... I am not at all worried about pregnancy as I have been doubling up for the past 2 or 3 cycles (BC and condoms). It is currently day 4 of my period...but it is exceeding light, so much so, that almost nothing is coming out on to my light pad. My period started around 10pm on wednesday, it was heavy on thursday and yesterday. I used tampons (usually my peiod does not appear heavy on my pad if I use tampons) and engaged in intercourse with a condom yesterday...I think becoming sexually excited also slows down the flow, but I am not entirely sure... Anyhow, since this has happened twice in a row with my period, I am a little psyched out about it. Is this all because my body is changing? My period is usually 5ish days. Perhaps I just worry too much.

Becoming aroused doesn't "shut down" menstrual flow. Am I understanding that what you're reporting here is what seems to be a possible pattern of shorter periods than you are used to, or a less gradual decrease of flow during your period? If so, either way, there's no cause for concern about either of those things. How our periods are often changes over life and will be different than we've gotten used to sometimes. And yep, if you have been changing your diet and activity patterns/levels, that can create changes in menstrual patterns. Lighter periods are often common with increased activity, for instance.

I believe that both shorter periods (last time was 2 days!) and a less gradual decrease of flow is happening when I have my period. It comes when I expect it to..it's just shorter and the flow stops almost abruptly from normal/heavy to very very very light. I'm a consistency kind of girl and so when something different happens with me, especially my period, I gotta know why it's changing! i like a comfortable and consistent norm! Thanks very much!

Alas, menstrual periods and fertility cycles are often not going to be sound things to expect a whole lot of consistency from, especially over years rather than periods of months. It just sounds to me like your periods have started to become a bit lighter. If these are the only symptoms you have had -- no other health issues, things like increased pain or spotting between periods -- I really do think you're probably just fine.
