I discovered Scarleteen through a teen 'zine website...I can't remember which one, as I've stopped looking at pretty much all of them. I hung around the boards for a few weeks just watching everybody talk, and then somebody posted on zero tolerance and *bing!* the creativity lightbulb goes off in my head and I decided to join so I could voice my opinion on the subject. One of the best moves I've ever made, if I do say so myself...I can't tell you how many prejudices and stereotypes and wrong ideas have high-tailed it out of my head after a few months of being here! I love being a member of such a supporting community; nobody judges me here, and I don't get that anywhere else.Yay for Scarleteen!

Hanne (one of the former Scarleteen Sexperts) said "You need to come to Scarleteen and hang out."So I did.
And then they made me an advocate cause I'm so damn quick with a search engine.
Scarleteen's been very eye-opening for me.

Gumdrop Girl has been talking about Scarleteen for what seems like forever. She seemed to have met a lot of really cool people here and she was talking about them all the time. Although I'll admit that until I joined, everytime she said "Danny" my response was "WHO???" (or as Danny would prefer "what?") I'm meeting some really cool people here though and starting to enjoy my stay. I've known Gumdrop Girl for years, and I met BruinDan a couple of weeks ago and I'm nuts about both of them, so who knows who else I'll get along with here?Oh and I met BruinDan's sister two weeks ago too. My friend Lisa and I agreed that she seems a lot older than her actual age. I don't know her that well, but she seemed pretty cool also.

I think I tripped over here when I was looking up smut , and one of the sites' warnings said something like, 'Hey you, under-eighteener, get out! Click here for more info.' So I clicked and fell over here and it was all so pretty, I didn't feel like leaving. You people are all so fetching and sweet and kind

I was reading a sex ed. forum on I.S.C.A. BBS, and someone (not me!) claimed that she'd broken her 'outer' hymen, but her 'inner' hymen remained intact. Most of us tried to tell her that if she had one at all, she would have only had *one*. Then someone said, "You need to go to Scarleteen!" So I decided to check it out - exactly a year ago yesterday!I stayed because the people seemed ever-so-friendly, and because I was (I think) the only pregnant girl at the time. I'd seen a lot of people on other boards being rude about teenage pregnancy (I was 19 at the time) so I decided to stick around and see how people around here felt about it.

I found Scarleteen while perusing that lovely site Chickclick.com about a year ago. It's fun watching it change... every time I check in I hope (wish! pray!) there's a new fun article for me to read. It's opened my eyes to a whole BUNCH of opinions that I never would have encountered in my small little community. Scarleteen rocks! ------------------ "Do what you will, always.. I found this site from teenadvice.net, which i think is really horrible now and really uninformative, but i still go there to give advice.I stay at this site because i love it so much! Everyone is so nice and non-judgmental and accepting. I feel like i can tell everyone here anything. And people know what they're talking about.
I love scarleteen!

Wow ferret, you may want to reduce your caffeine intake just before bed. It was June of 2000 and I had run a search on Google about condoms. I was trying to settle a bet between a friend of mine which had to do with the effectiveness of condoms vs the birth control pill. Google sent me here, and I liked what I saw. So I "lurked" for months and months and months, and in the process found out that my sexual knowledge was extremely incorrect up to that point. So I spent months repairing the damage and eventually found that I liked the style and tone of this fine establishment.
I feel fortunate to be surrounded by such a wide variety of interesting people here. Everyone has a different story to tell, and there are so many fascinating people that I'm never bored.

How and when did you discover Scarleteen? About March 2000- I was looking for sex ed websites because my college wanted to put in a net nanny, and I wanted to show that just because a site is about sex, it doesn't mean it's pornography (of course, in accommodation for people over the age of 18, I don't see why porn should have been restricted at all- and it wasn't in the end- but I wanted to have a backup arguement). So when I saw the banner ad for Scarleteen, I went for it, and was very pleasantly surprized by the high quality of the info here.
What made you stay?
As I said, the quality of the info impressed me, and I was learning a lot from the articles here.
Why did you decide to join the boards?
I hung back for a couple of weeks after the boards opened, but I ended up posting when I saw a thread about internet relationships, and decided to stick up for a friend of mine who was in one. Funny how such things work, eh?
Has Scarleteen helped you in any way?
Definitely.

I was looking for a Planned Parent Hood Website. Then I saw a website that said Scarleteen, sex education. So I clicked on it and I went to it. I thought that it was neat that they had something like that.I was also so clueless about sex, it was unbelieveable. I joined right away. I thought that I knew about sex, and I was good at giving advice. Well I ws wrong, but from day to day I learn, and it got me far. I am glad I joined, or I still might be clueless about sex and what it really means.

I think i found it the same way lucina did LOL Not that i'm proud to admit that or anything ... But a lot of sites that aren't okay for viewers under 18/19/21 send us here. Which is a great idea, i think. I must be the only one that didn't look around first. I joined right away and started posting. I started here in July 2000, but was posting under 'AngelsBrat'. I was a little sh*tdisturber, to say the least ... always posting in the mensroom and ask a sexpert ... LOL I changed my nickname this in september or something, when i moved.
I just love giving advice ... So that's why i'm here. And i love learning. I've been an advocate since October 2000, and was tickled pink when the job was offered to me

Although I don't remember who it was, a chickie who posts here referred me from some other advice 'zine. Scarleteen's been wonderful, for sure. Its answered all those questions I was too embarrased to ask, and I never look anywhere else for info. I've referred lots of people here, and I plan to keep doing just that every time someone says something silly and untrue about sexual health.------------------ ...an angel who didn't so much fall as saunter vaguely downwards...

If I remember correctly, I became a member in August (just about one year ago), about a month after we first bought a computer. So basically, I was newly fascinated with the internet and all that it had to offer. I was already a member of chickclick (it used to provide my email account, until it's untimely demise) and so I was searching through it's "sister sites" one day when I stumbled upon Scarleteen. Being the curious teen that I was, I posted a question about becoming pregnant by swimming in a pool. Silly me. Like Danny and Glitter, I was quite uneducated on the topic of sex and sexual health- I'm amazed now, at everything I've learned since then.I'm extremely glad I found scarleteen- everyone's so friendly and helpful, and Heathers' articles are wonderful (not to mention the fact that I've learned so much from scarleteen in the past year). Plus, I've made many awesome friends (you guys rawk). It's so cool to have a place to go, where no one will judge me and the people are so positive. When they asked me to be an advocate (about 4 or 5 months ago- I forget) I was thrilled.

Hanne and ErinK kept talking about this place and I just HAD to come and see it, and I lurked for a long time until a post REALLY got into my head and demanded a response. I think there are tons of really cool people here and I like the no-nonsense vibe here...anyone can come here and learn, and it's just a very cool place. I learned a lot of stuff just in the articles and I was really quite pleasantly surprised by that. It was really refreshing in one way and scary in another (To think of all the holes in "sex ed" in schools is kind of scary to me... sometimes. )Mostly I like the people here and I like to be helpful when I can. Sometimes I watch quietly and sometimes I am very talkative (as you guys probably know, 'cause my posts are all long... )

I don't really remember from where I came from, but I think it was a site about sex ed, and well I decided to have a look, because since puberty my parents have been really open about sexuality and I had always wanted to know more so I came up here. Why I decided to stay ? Because there were so many things I didn't knew. I realised there was so much over here, specially here at the boards. So I just stayed and I'm enjoying this place !!!

I too found scarleteen through the Chickclick affiliate page. I stayed because the articles were awesome and I was questioning my sexuality. When I first came we didn't have message boards (or I didn't find them, but I'm 99% sure they weren't there), so posting wasn't an issue. Later on I stumbled back, saw *wow* we had message boards and jumped right in (ooh, I remember when the boards were babies!), and I keep coming back because I'm an advocate and the other advos are known to carry cattle prods for those of us who slack Naw... i think i got here through chick click as well. i stayed b/c it's a small enough community that you can actually get to know people's thoughts/ideas/postingstyles a bit, but it's large enough that there are a variety of viewpoints. i'm pretty much a fourm/message board junkie, and so far this is the most welcoming community i've found. scarleteen has definatly helped me, there are some issues that i can't talk about to people i know in my life, and it's really great to be able to talk about them here. Oh man, I don't even remember how I found this site..I just know I've been coming here since around January of this year. What made me stay? Well, I think a lot of it had to do with the message boards, I liked the idea of being able to see intelligent discussions about so many topics that most people have probably wondered about one time or another. Aside from the boards, Scarleteen, in my opinion, is my favorite sex ed. site because everything about it seems pretty sophisticated. It doesn't talk down to teens, nor use all those goofy things that most teen sites have, like bright colors/graphics and silly "teenage slang", etcetera. It really is just straightforward and VERY informative. I have learned so much through this site, and it's definitely helped me accept myself more, open my mind, and realize I'm not alone. Who knows where I'd be without Scarleteen. Oh yeah, I forgot one of the questions. I joined the boards because well, I just love message boards in general, yep. So I decided it was high time I registered and joined in on some of the discussions, cause I read these message boards usually everyday.
Anyways, MUCHO LOVE to Scarleteen.

my "finding scarleteen" story is pretty much similar to alot of others in this thread.okay, i admit that before scarleteen, i was *really* clueless about most things sex-related. my love affair with scarleteen )shh! don't tell my boyfriend!) began around february of this year. i had just started a very serious relationship and had only been in one other in my whole life (in junior high school).
so when things started progressing with my bf, and becoming more physical, i had a minor freak out. i vaguely remembered reading a "dear abby" column, of all things, about "getting pregnant with your blue jeans on." or something like that.
so i rushed to my handy-dandy computer and spent many hours looking for information about pregnancy risks, etc.
somehow, i stumbled upon scarleteen and quickly found the answer to my question. after that, i knew where to go for any other questions or concerns that arose. i finally decided to join the boards in march, after lurking for a month or so.
scarleteen is something i check out regularly. i'm always learning new stuff here, which is great. especially since my bf and i are still experiencing new things with each other. when we decide the time is right for us to move to the next level, i know i will prep myself here at scarleteen beforehand.
also, i've found that since coming here, i have been sharing my newfound knowledge an awful lot. i dispelled *several* myths that my bf was buying into, and have wowed him with my sexual savviness.
so thanks scarleteen. i know i say this almost everytime i post, but i mean it. this site is a huge service to all who visit here i'm sure. i only wish everyone knew of/had access to this place because i'm sure that *lots* of problems could be remedied if only people cared enough about their bodies and well-being (sexual and otherwise) as much as scarleteen does.

Ooooo me! My turn! I was part of the "chickclick" group. When chick-click shut down, I somehow got linked here. I found lots of helpful information, and haven't found it in my heart to leave...I love you guys! ------------------ ~Who live in a pineapple under the sea?~

I really have no idea how I stumbled on Scarleteen. All I know is I'm extremely happy I did. I've learned so much from this site. Things that I probably would have had to learn in very awkward situations later on in life. The boards are great. I really love the fact that everyone can express they're different opinions without starting fights and throwing insults. The articles are really informative and helpful too.

How and when did you discover Scarleteen? October 2001.
My Phys Ed. Teacher Suggested a site called iEmily.com, I went to that site for a while, but one day it closed down, so I searched for "Sexual Education Site" and I found Scarleteen. I looked at the Articles for a long time not realizing there were even message boards!
What made you stay? The boards! the information is so amazing, and accurate, how could I leave? and it's always fun to help out someone if you kow somethin they don't know, and you gain so much knowledge from Scarleteen!
Why did you decide to join the boards? I used to have ALOT of questions to ask (I still do sometimes) and the replies here are quick and accurate, so I've just been here ever since. Also the boards make ya learn something new everyday!
Has Scarleteen helped you in any way? in SO many ways! If I have a questions about my family, myself, my boyfriend or anything, the Scarleteener's have always been there for me!
I love scarleteen so much, because I don't really have anyone I can talk to about Sex and stuff, so It's great to come here and I don't have to be embarrassed to ask or tell anything! THX Scarleteen!

I found scarleteen when I was searching for information on STD's and a website that promoted safe sex, not just abstinence. Me and my friend found it and I decided to come back because even though it's factual it's also.............fun. Scarleteen makes learning fun so thast why I came back.
