Hey lovelies-I'm getting my lifeguard cert. soon, and I it made me wonder-where do ya'll work?
Have you ever had any jobs in the past that you hated? Loved? Anyone ever a lifeguard with some good tips?
I'm really looking forward to getting my cert. My first job ! My own money!! Terrifically excited! And I've been volunteering at the place I'll work for 3 years, so it won't be akward or anything. And it's always a plus to be on the boss's good side.

Last summer -- between my first and second years of university -- I was an overnight baker at a bagel shop in the suburbs. I worked four nights a week from midnight to eight in the morning -- and worst of all, those four nights included weekends. I also worked in the store serving customers for one shift a week, from, say eight in the morning until four in the afternoon. It sounds horrid, probably, but there were some upsides: I worked alone, and for the first six or seven hours of my shift, the store was empty and closed, I could play what I wanted on the radio and I didn't have to deal with rude customers and/or annoying bosses. The downsides... well, I didn't have the social life that I would have had I not been keeping hours like Dracula, I survived on no sleep for 24 hours on more than one occasion and I was always falling asleep whenever my girlfriend came to visit me at home. I have a really cool job in the summers. I work at my local Parks and Recreation Department with a youth Band. I love little kids and it's really fun watching them grow and learn. Other that that I work for a University running errands across campus and doing the stuff no one else wants to do. That one kinda sucks but I get paid 6 bucks an hour to do it so oh well.Stay Happy

I started working as a hostess at this popular restaurant when I was a freshman in high school. I had that job until junior year. A fire started in the kitchen in the middle of the night and the owners decided not to reopen the restaurant.A couple of months later the owners opened a sushi bar and I became a waitress. I love sushi and the tips are great. Yummie yummie. It was a sweet job except for the hours. It's fine working getting home at midnight during the summer but I can't do that during the school year so I had to quit.
It's a really good feeling earning your own money and an even better feeling spending it. You look at the check and despite the minute amount, you're still happy that it's all yours. Have lots of fun and good luck with your new job.

Currently i'm what you could call "b/w jobs" ... I don't have one, but i've been sending out resumes and i actually got ONE job interview ... no one wants me *sniffle* I did work tho ... once upon a time. When I was living w/ my mom I used to work for/with her. She was my boss ... It was actually charity work, but we got paid anyway. It was really kind of boring ... Just selling bingo cards and calling out the little number in the corner of the card when someone yelled bingo. Bingo people tend to be more cranky and uptight than the rest of the world, i find. It just wasn't my "cup of tea" ...
Pink ~ I want to be a lifeguard too I took swimming lessons about 5 yrs ago, and then i was at level 11 ... I could probably finish them all this winter if i set my mind to it, but i'm somewhat lazy and extremely out of shape I really want to tho ... Maybe i'll catch up on my lessons this summer. I say that every June tho .. hehe

I didn't even have a job until the summer after my freshman year in college. So now I'm a proud employee of the Target Corporation. More specifically, I work as a cashier and at the guest service desk. It's not the worst job in the world, but it's not something I want to do for the rest of my life.~KittenGoddess

YEAH! CONGRATS for coming this far in being a lifeguard! I was a junior lifeguard for a year or so...and the best advice I can give you is: TAKE A CAN WITH YOU WHEN YOU DO A SAVE! (I learn!!) I currently have two jobs! (Paying my way through college!) I love it! I work as a teacher's assistant at a Early Childhood center, and it is soooo GREAT! I love my kids sooo much! (they are sooo adorable!) And I tutor during the weekends...chemistry and biology and stuff-and I love doing that too. Although at times, the jobs can be stressfull-cause I have to balance school and work. But just being with my kids and teaching is stress relieving. Good Luck at work. Remember: Life is WAAAY too short to get jobs that you are easily bored in. Getting a job is not just about responsibility but also, about experience. Go out there and get em tiger!

And I can't even float. Haha. Gd for you Pink. I always wanted to work as a cashier somewhere coz I love seeing what people buy and stuff. I'm weird. I worked as a waitress for 2 days before my mum absolutely insisted I join this PR firm she used to work in as an intern. And I did.
My jobs have all been office jobs. And I have worked in a PR firm, a publishing company and Lycos.
Very boring and mundane jobs. But I need the experience.

I was the Easter Bunny once. A kid peed on my leg and the suit smelled like wet cat and cheese. And I only got $25 out of it.Another time, I took care of this evil little dog that latched itself onto my ankle as soon as I got there every single day.
Did some directing (plays and musicals) in high school three times, but I didn't get paid for it. Still counts as job experience, though. I really wish I could do that again. And right now, I'm assistant-coaching the school's theatre and debate team.

Currently, I am aggressively pursuing laboratory research work around here. It's tough finding a spot!Formerly, I have been a 'zine columnist, and worked at a major record label in the marketing and radio promotions department.
Now, I watch money trickle in from my website.

Worst job ever: telephone canvasser, taking political surveys. It was truly awful.Second-worst job: temping for a very stuffy, very formal investment firm's editorial/publishing department. No one talked to me for 4 solid weeks.
Third-worst job: babysitting, for a weekend, for a family with 3 small kids. Having the parents be in the next state and having one of the kids come down with a gastrointestinal flu. By the time the parents could get home, I had 3 small kids on my hands, all of them in various stages of puking and diarrhea and feeling miserable and wanting their mommy and daddy. Fortunately it didn't last long!

I'm trained as an aerospace engineer/aerodynamicist, but currently I'm a database programmer. Bleh...its like being paid to take valium, plus some utterly mind-numbing support calls. My boss drives me utterly insane - he's done literally NONE of the stuff he was going to do when we started the project. He considers a full days work to be playing with the colours on the install screen.
But, given the huge amounts of overtime I'm doing, it pays well.
Which is good, cos I really need the money!

I've done political phone canvassing, but it was volunteer work, and I didn't mind it that much. However, sometimes the list got a bit screwed up, and one of the apparently residential numbers answered with 'Hello Adult Video Warehouse, how can I help you?' I asked him my set of questions anyway and determined that most of the porn people were voting Tory. I'm not currently working, but should find something soon, and find myself abslutely grateful for the esperience I've gotten at school this year. I can operate large baking machinery (some of the dough mixers we use are as big as me, and yes, training is required to use them), am trained in cooking and waiting, and can do some really funky looking things with cakes. Which means there's more open to me than there was this time last year. I just need to get a newspaper and get looking.

Milke, Why am I not surprised that the people at adult video warehouse would have voted for the party of family values?

I don't work at yet. And I feel very lucky that I don't have to yet. I don't know what I would do to get some extra cash in high school because I'm not a people-person.Pink, congrats on your certification. I'm not a lifeguard, but I used to be around a lot of them. Be really nice to the kids, only yell at them if you have to, and don't pick favorites. Some lifeguards at my pool were really mean. You should treat everyone equally and you'll be everyone's favorite!
