..whoever needs, wants and really should have one thrown for them somewhere besides here, but hell, they should have one and we can do it for them here. In other words, we have users sometimes who have something huge and amazing going on, something that should be supported: like coming to terms with a gender identity and owning it, coming out or just saying out loud to themselves they're queer, getting a first period, having a first great sexual experience, making a reproductive choice (even if tough, it's still a big deal to do), having a kid, whatever. And those same users often get more nonsupport than support if whatever that is isn't something people around them are okay with or feel deserves a big hooray or cheerlead. So, let's turn this around and throw the parties our fellow community members really should have, in our book. I'd like to start this out by starting a big party with streamers and confetti, for Djuna in her transition, including claiming her name for herself and dealing with the tough stuff of the people around her adjusting (or not) to that. Also, beyond the streamers and confetti, I personally am thinking about some hardcore cupcakes, maybe with unicorns coming out of them (really, just because *I* like unicorns, so this may be selfish). I want a dance party as part of the picture, and I'm thinking a crowdsurf where everyone yells "Whoohoo, welcome Djuna!" is required.

Oh, also BUBBLES! I'm thinking loads and loads of people blowing a gazillion shiny bubbles.

Oh sweet Moses. I did not realise this was specifically for me! Thank you so much! Well, you just totally made my day, you wonderful lovely person. I think for this to be a proper party, we need music! I have brought Closer To Fine by the Indigo Girls and Good Feeling by the Violent Femmes. (Just two for now, I don't want to take all the generic queer music, now.) N'awww, thank you so much. I'm really touched. Let's make this a real party next time I'm in your United States. (Now I just need to call my rabbi and doublecheck that mythical animals are acceptable vegetarian fare.)

Hilariously, my partner, my mid-forties partner, who was around with the rest of us when the Indigo Girls came out, JUST realized two weeks ago they were queer. Thus, I think, making him the last person on earth to know. And nice musical choices, big time! Maybe rev it up a little extra with some Blondie and Scissor Sisters?

I'm definitely up for Blondie - I never really listened to the Scissor Sisters though except on the radio! And I heard an interview the other day where a queer sex worker was saying the Scissor Sisters are all about sex work - I didn't pick up on that at all. Anywho, track suggestions? (BUBBLES!)

Ooh, a party for Djuna! I think I'll bring some yummy slightly-fizzy elderflower drink and find some champagne glasses and pour a toast to say, Djuna, congrats on your chosen name! Do we have balloons yet?... Here, I have some balloons And Ooh, Scissor Sisters! And you're introducing me to some more queer-party-music, yay! [ 04-10-2012, 07:33 PM: Message edited by: Redskies ]

Hmmm, the right Scissor Sisters track suggestions for this shindig. Let's say Take Your Mama Out, Filthy/Gorgeous, and Fire With Fire. Yay, balloons! [ 04-10-2012, 07:35 PM: Message edited by: Heather ]

Also, I believe NixieGurl is overdue a birthday party, too, so if it's all right with you, Djuna, think we could piggyback this partytown.

Balloons, yay! Thank you Redskies! I actually do have a bottle of champagne here, but it's supposed to be waiting until I finish my dissertation. Shhhh. I'll put those tracks on! And allow me to add Postcards From Mexico by Girlyman and Underwater by Tegan and Sara.

Oooh, ooh, also, for both of you, if we're doing Tegan and Sara, add Take me Anywhere to that mix! And a trampoline to go with it!

I was totally sitting here trying to choose between those two Tegan and Sara songs before. Let's add in The Cure.

Oh, it would be awesome to have NixieGurl here too. And I understand that birthdays can feel very weird when other life stuff is going on, so it seems like this can be as much or as little her birthday party as she feels comfortable with. Birthday wishes, NixieGurl (I suppose as an online party, anything cheery goes, so may I, just personally, also use this to mark my late mum's 60th? It was yesterday, and I didn't know how the hell else to do that before. I think she would've Loved a party for a group of young folk who really needed one - she was a teacher who specialised in not giving up on kids who were having a tough time. Happy 60th, "Dee". Let's have some lemon birthday cake.)

Thanks, Djuna. I always think it's a wonderful thing when people who really need some joy are the very people who go on and generously share that joy. Yay trampoline!

Big time, happy birthday, Dee! She also obviously had some hand in bringing someone I know we all really value into the world, so let's not forget that cause for celebration and "Hey, thanks, Dee!" too! (In the meantime, I'll pretend to be a real grownup and put padding around the trampoline in case anyone flies off.)

I remember in high school trampolining class, we would all have to stand around the edge of the trampoline and if the person jumping fell towards us we had to push them back into the middle. That could be a fun way of doing things?

Thanks all Yeah 26 now, not that excited about it to be fair, but my three year old nephew said that if he could be 26 right now he would buy me an elephant, so we can throw one of those into this party too (he is obsessed with a pic of me riding one in Thailand which I had to actually leave with him when I moved as he sleeps next to the damn thing).

And on the subject of Trampolines I should share this: The death of my childhood trampoline came when my older brother dared me he could jump off the roof of the house onto it and that I couldn't, I may have not been an overly daring child but I wasnt dumb so told him to prove it and watched as he jumped and split the whole thing as he flew right through it and broke his arm. Win for me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIXIE! Okay, nobody in the online party is allowed to dare themselves on the trampoline! [ 04-11-2012, 04:53 AM: Message edited by: Saffron Reimi ]

Oh yay, a party! My partner's mother made me yummy bat-shaped cookies for Easter (I love bats, fyi) and I have some left. Happy to share them with y'all!! Lots of love to Djuna for rocking her name (and what an awesome name it is!), and belated birthday wishes to Nixie!
