I've been dealing with what seems like a yeast infection since around the beginning of the month--it started out as just some soreness and a lack of discharge, which I took to be simple recovery from rough sex. It doesn't seem quite like a yeast infection in that while it's itchy and uncomfortable, I have very little discharge and what I do have is very thin with small curds. I looked up the symptoms and it looks like I've got BV, which requires prescription antibiotics to treat. The trick is: I'm currently on a (tightly scheduled) school trip abroad and won't be able to see a doctor until I'm home in California. As desperate as it is, I was able to sneak some plain live culture yogurt to the bathroom a few times last week and applying that did seem to help. I've otherwise been trying to stay as clean and well-hydrated and nourished as possible, is there anything else I can or should be doing until I can get actual treatment? Also: I'm on the NuvaRing and took it out a day early (simply because having a foreign object in there during an infection didn't seem smart), and a couple days later had my period with some relief in the discomfort. Today is my day to put the ring back in, which I have, but I'm wondering if it's going to cause any more irritation. Thanks!

HI SnailShells, It sounds like you're doing everything you can to care for yourself. The only other thing I'd suggest is to avoid wearing tight underwear or clothing. If you can't sneak that plain yogurt to the bathroom, it will still do you some good to eat it. When will you be able to get to your doctor? I really don't know whether the nuvaring will cause more irritation or not. That's really going to be based on how you're feeling. By all means, if it's bothering you, take it out; just know that you won't have contraceptive protection. My sympathies to you. It's yucky to not be feeling well while travelling.

Thanks very much! I'll be seeing a doctor in the first week of February, soon after I'm back in the states. I've been sure to eat plain yoghurt as often as possible, it's a breakfast staple over here I've also been taking baths with a few drops of tea tree oil (pure, probably should have gotten some with a carrier oil to help it mix, but oh well) and that seemed to have helped quite a bit. I have normal discharge again, but the skin near my vagina is still pretty red and tender. Anything I can do to make it a little less uncomfortable?

Hi SnailShells, From what I know about essential oils, there's no need for a carrier oil if you're putting it in bath water. If you can get some, pure aloe vera gel can be good for all skin irritations.
