I have read multiple posts about Plan B and only found one of the original posters to post a follow up with her experience with Plan B (i.e, if she got her period or not and she did) I had unprotected sex on 2/3. I took Plan B (called Next Choice) within 6 hours of the incident. I don't think I am likely to get pregnant because my partner wasn't aroused and he only went in 5 times, in the duration of literally 5 seconds. He cummed earlier, but on himself. He wiped his semen off with a dry towel. I wasn't aware that you can still get pregnant from precum and residual semen left in his urethra. That's when I realized I need to take Plan B. So I took it and I didn't have any side effects except for feeling the hormones kicking in. I was emotional, crying for no reason, little loss of appetite, always down and worried. My friends (who've been in the same experience as me) have said that I took Plan B really early so my chances are super slim so I shouldn't worry/stress because that will delay my period. Last time I got my period was 1/21/13. I downloaded a period app calendar and it predicted that my next period would be 2/18 which was yesterday. I am 2 days late right now. Should I be concerned? I am irregular sometimes. I never really kept track of my period until last month. I read that Plan B can alter a woman's cycle sometimes, is that true? My periods are never bad as some of my friends. I never get cramps or anything. They usually last 4-6 days. I am trying my best not to stress because I really want my period to come soon. I hope you can answer some of my questions. So far, this is the only forum I found that is helpful and non-judgmental. Thank you in advance!

It's very common for Plan B to make your periods irregular after you take it. You may find the additional information here useful: Emergency Contraception (Plan B or the Morning-After-Pill) Also, I wouldn't rely so heavily on that app; like you said, it's a prediction, not an iron-clad decree. If you track your cycle for several months you might be able to see a pattern emerge, but even so there are many factors that will make a period a little earlier or later than normal. Including, as your friends pointed out, stress levels.

Even people with the most regular of cycles can expect a few days' variation in when their period shows up; the human body is a bit unpredictable that way. So, it's entirely possible that your period isn't even really late yet, especially if you haven't been charting your cycles for awhile to have a good idea of how long they generally are. Many period apps and calendars just rely on days, which is useless because not everyone has the same cycle length. If it turns out to be late though, that's very likely because of the Plan B (which can and often does cause some cycle wonkiness). That said, it's always a good idea to take a pregnancy test after using emergency contraception, and doing so is a really easy way to get some stress relief, so why don't you go ahead and do that now? It's been long enough since your risk to get an accurate result.

I am truly appreciative of you guys replying back to me, especially so fast!! True, those apps doesn't seem to help me with my situation right now, only making it worse. I still think my risk of pregnancy is low because he never ejaculated in me, but there still was residual semen left in his urethra. How late can Plan B make your period? If I don't get my period by the end of this week, should I be concerned? I don't know how late is too late for my period to come. I will take a test as soon as my possible. I hope by the end of this week because that marks 3 weeks after the risk incident. All of my friends are telling me that I am over-reacting and that I need to calm down. It's so much easier said than done. I am trying my hardest to stay calm though. Thank you guys so much for the words of help and the articles. I've read a lot since I've researched about this after the incident. However, I find reading about women's experiences more helpful because I can relate more to them. I really wish they taught more sed ex in schools. I never really learned about sex ed growing up my schools. It was usually basic information, nothing much. Thank you again.

Your period could be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks late; there's really no way to know since the hormones in it affect everyone slightly differently. I hear you on how difficult it can be to stay calm - pregnancy scares are, well, scary (been there, done that) but anything you can do to take care of yourself and help yourself relax is a good thing. And of course, if it would help to keep talking through this here, you are more than welcome to do that.

It's normal to be a few weeks late too? I know my hormones have been crazy! My boyfriend tells me how emotional I've been, crying for no reason, a lot of moodswings, and etc. Everytime I feel myself wet, I think my period is coming, but it's really just discharge This really was a big wake up call and I am for sure always going to use a condom. I think I will pick some up at the nearest PP here. I really appreciate your guys' help on here. It made me feel a little bit better knowing there is a community dedicated to sexual health.

Glad to be of help! Honestly, individual responses to Plan B vary a lot, so while some people may not notice any side effects, others skip a period entirely or have it show up weeks late. I think at this point the best thing you can do is take a pregnancy test. It's been more than two weeks since your risk, so you can do that any time from now on and get an accurate result. And I'd agree that using condoms from now on is an excellent idea! Do you feel like you know how to use them properly to make sure they're as effective as possible?

Skipping a period seems skeptical to me. I wouldn't like that. I am hoping I get my period by the end of this week, if not I will definitely get a test (over the counter) Is it true that almost every girl goes through a pregnancy scare? I know how to put it on, but effectively...no. Can you link me an article about condoms please? I am going to try to abstain sex for a few more periods.

Here's a good place to start: Condom Basics: A User's Manual Searching for "condoms" on the main ST site will bring up a lot of other articles as well.

Thank you for the article, it was very helpful. Another thing I forgot to mention. Before the risk incident, I exercised 2-3 times a week. After the incident, I stopped exercising because well, my mood has been down and I was worried 24/7. Diet and exercise does effect when my period will come right?

Yep, a sudden change in diet and exercise can certainly have an affect on your cycle. This article may help; it talks about the various reasons a period may be late: M.I.A or, Dude, Where's My Period?
