Hey guys!! First wanted to say thank you sooo much for all of your previous help!! I don't know if any of you read what I posted in one of the support group forums buuuutt long story short I went to the doctors for an annual physical and I ended up talking to my doctor about my situation(fingering-pre-cum-periods-pregnancy) He said I was fine(like you guys all said lol) and I got a pregnancy test done...negative it was!! I am now on my fourth period since my scare and I feel sooo much better. While there is still that tiny bit of worry I am doing great!!! I have a new question now though. After not seeing my boyfriend for months since he has been gone, he finally gets to come back for a few days for labor day weekend. He will be back next friday! You see though he says he has a cold sore...I have been told that cold sores are a form of herpes? I got a sore once on my mouth when I was like four or five, but I think that was from constantly licking the side of my lip. And I have had none since then!! Anyways my boyfriend has gotten cold sores before I guess. Not often though pretty rarely. He HAS been tested for STD's and he is all clean: ) lol so is it okay for me to kiss him???? Sorry I just don't understand the whole cold sore thing much so I just want to be safe: )

Cold sores are the visible symptoms of herpes, yes. To minimize the risk of getting herpes from him, you'll want to avoid kissing him until the sore has healed completely. Though the chances are much lower, you can also contract herpes from someone when they are not currently showing symptoms, so it would be extra smart to also always use protection for oral sex. Thank you! I guess why I am confused though is because he HAS been tested and has noooo herpes. I talked to him about it and he said it's a fever blister. My mom gets them too when she get's sick and has a low grade fever. That's why I'm confused!! lol

Okay, but here's the thing: fever blister is another common term for a herpes blister. And herpes blisters tend to appear when we are sick and/or our immune system is compromised. So, either he has contracted herpes since his test, or he has something else going on. The best thing to do here is for him to make an appointment with his doctor while he has a visible sore, to figure out what's going on. In the meantime, you'll want to avoid things like kissing and oral sex while he has a sore, and be extra careful to use condoms/dental dams when he doesn't have one.
