I'm planning to take a digital pregnancy test tomorrow after having a risk about 23 days ago now. How accurate are they? I keep seeing reports of false positives on the internet, and I'd rather not that since I'm already stressed and worried. :\ Thanks for the help!

Hi, Digital pregnancy tests are very accurate when taken at least 14 days after a possible risk. Too, false positives are extremely rare and generally happen when the test itself is faulty. Have you seen this article? Peeing on a Stick: All About Pregnancy Tests Hope this helps!

Ok just an update. I took a digital pregnancy test yesterday (Clear Blue brand), and followed the directions carefully. Both tests came out to be "Not pregnant". Is it safe to assume I'm not pregnant even though my period hasn't come yet? Still worried about this!

Two negative pregnancy tests several weeks after the risk can certainly be trusted though if you wanted further validation you could take a test again in a couple of days. How late is your period? Do you generally get your period after the same number of days each month? That is, how regular is your cycle?

Thanks for replying, I appreciate it. I want to trust the tests, since I'm coming upon a month since having sex (May 3rd and May 5th is when it happened), but the false negative stories are scaring me. (( I might take one more test in two weeks just to make sure, if my period hasn't come by then. I currently have no real symptoms of pregnancy, and if I did experience nausea, cramping, and swollen breasts it was just from stressing over this period not coming (or maybe late ovulation). I'm not sure... As of now, my period is a week late. Depending on stress, my period does get irregular (it has skipped a month or two before many times), however my last periods for this year have been occurring nearly around the same time (every 28-30 days). Strangely, my April (and last) period lasted for 18 days. I don't know if that is the cause of me skipping this month coupled with the pregnancy scare stress? (( I wish it wasn't this stressful. Even though I used a condom last time, I wish I had used an alternate form of birth control just to put my mind at ease from all this stress. The thought of not being able to really enjoy my sexuality without being frowned upon also really bothers me. I was raised very conservatively, so all of this is definitely a no. You've taken the tests as directed, so you can trust them. This article might give you some info on what can cause periods to not arrive (and yes, stress can definately be an underlying cause): M.I.A; Or Dude, Where's my Period? . Remember, you can rule out pregnancy as a reason because of your test results.

Thanks so much for the info and reassurance! I was so scared and worried, but in case it may help someone else, I got my period thankfully. So I can firsthand say that digital pregnancy tests are accurate...what a relief!
