I MAY be having my first time soon and was just wondering just how prepared can one be? I read the guide on the site but my main question is, say my girlfriend was on the pill and during my first time, that and a condom was used. Would it be safe to also take a morning after pill after the deed or would that interfere with the birth control? Also, how long until birth control pills start "working"? My mom once said it took a few months for the effects to kick in and shouldn't have sex the second my girlfriend goes on it.

If your girlfriend is on the pill and taking it as directed, and you back up that protection by using a condom, there is no need to take the Morning After Pill. It would not interfere with anything, but it also would not provide any added protection. As far the protection of the pill goes, it depends on when your girlfriend starts her first pack. If she starts on the first day of her period, she can rely on the protection of the pill after the first week. If she starts at another time in her cycle, she will want to finish her first pack before relying on the pill. Either way, it's smart to always double up with condoms. They provide added protection, and they also protect you from STIs. I don't know which article you've read on the main-site, so I am just going to link you to a few relevant articles that you and your partner can read together:Ready or Not? Good stuff, one more question. Whats is the difference between "perfect" use and "typical" use. Like in the condom section of the site. In other words, what are the typical users doing to hurt their chances of avoiding preggers? And thank you for the links, I really only looked at the birth control articles.

With typical condom use, we are talking about things like using condoms that have expired, using condoms that are damaged (from improper storage, or that were torn when the wrapper was opened, for example), using condoms improperly (without extra lube, or using one condom more than once), and also simply not using a condom at all. For some pointers on how to use a condom correctly, you can check out the article I linked you to above.
