I know there are a lot of posts like this, but none of them really fit my situation. Here it is: On February 2nd, I fooled around with a guy. We didn't get naked, but he did touch himself and then finger me. He never ejaculated. My question is, can I get pregnant if he had pre ejaculate on his hand (He swears that nothing was on his hands)? I have had my period since this time, on February 28th, but I read that you can have a period and still be pregnant (I don't know what to believe online, so that's why I'm asking here). I'm just really scared, and I feel like an idiot asking this because I'm in college and should know better. I haven't had any symptoms, really, and what I do experience I think I am making up in my head. (Also, I want to add that I doubt a pregnancy test would be accurate for me because I have ovarian cysts that could mess up the results)

Although any pregnancy risk would be low to none in the case you’ve stated, it’s actually not possible to be pregnant and still have a normal period. Based on the fact that you did have a normal period since then it’s safe to say that you’re not pregnant. Are you both up to date with your STI screenings though? Because he touched himself and then you there could be a chance of STI transfer. If you’re not it may be a good idea just to get the test run. Just so you know … it’s a good idea in the future just to make sure he washes his hands with soap and water between touching himself and touching you. It not only prevents risks but helps keep your mind at ease. [ 03-24-2008, 01:09 PM: Message edited by: Stephanie_1 ]

Thank you so much for the reply. I was just so confused by what people on other websites have said about how they had "normal" periods the whole time they were pregnant and how it seemed that people get pregnant all the time from fingering, and it scared me so much! I hope I can stop worrying now. We both had STI tests to get into college, so we are safe in that regard.

A lot of obgyn's will say that the misconception comes from the fact that women tend to class bleeding in general as their period. Like when a woman on birth control says that she's on her period - technically it's not really her having her period but rather a withdrawal bleed (because birth control when taken correctly is supposed to stop ovulation and therefore there's no egg.) So when bleeding occurs during pregnancy in the first few months (even implantation bleeding) many women will think that they've had a very light period (which it's common for periods to be different especially in young women) - and then when talking to others mention something about "I had my period the last three months. I can't be pregnant." Additionally, if you look at some of the early symptoms of pregnancy (Swollen/tender breasts, fatigue, nausea, bachackes, headaches, etc) many women experience some of the same discomforts when they have their period (or withdrawal bleed with the pill). So it's kind of understandable that the misconception exists. And just FYI from the initial post, even if you have cysts you can take a pregnancy test and get accurate results. Whew, I'm glad to know that a normal period can't be had when you're pregnant. I know I'm going to be more responsible after this...I just had never thought anything like this was even possible before I read it online. Health class in high school never told us anything like that. My doctor had told me a few years ago that they could have checked for ovarian cysts if you have a pregnancy test and know you cannot be pregnant because certain cysts emit pregnancy hormones. Maybe I got mixed up. [ 03-24-2008, 01:34 PM: Message edited by: Amanda2112 ]
