Quick question: I'm on a tri-phasic generic pill (TriSprintec) and have been for almost a year. I'm finishing the last active week in this pack on Friday. I already have the next pack in my possession. However, when I began the pack I'm currently finishing, I lost the first pill. That night, I took the first pill from the unopened pack (the same one I plan on starting after my placebo week) as a replacement.
Am I able to rely on some level of protection if I start the next pack on time, but only take 6 pills in the first week instead of 7, and then move immediately into the next two weeks of active pills? In other words, if my next month of pills is just shortened by one day? Or is this an unreliable method? I can't get a replacement back because it was the last refill on my prescription and I haven't been to the doctor yet to get the prescription renewed. We always use condoms, but I'm really only comfortable with the full protection of two methods. Thanks for your help!

You really need to take all of the active pills in a pack to be able to count on its full protection. So, I would recommend trying to get your prescriptioni renewed as soon as you can.
That said, if you cannot get a new prescription soon enough, it also does not mean that your protection would be drastically compromised. One missed pill in a pack will likely put you in the protection rate for typical use, which is still around 92% effective. In that case we'd simply advise you to back up with condoms, which you do already, so go you!

Thanks so much! So I began the first week of the new pack on the same day I would normally start, Saturday. But since I only have 6 of the pills for the first week, I'll have to either switch to the second week on Friday (after the first 6 pills have been taken) or skip a pill on Friday and begin the second week on Saturday. Would one of those options offer more protection than the other?

You absolutely don't want to skip a day of taking pills if you're looking for the pills to give you maximum contraceptive coverage.
So, you want to take the pils continuously, one each day. Does this help?
