I'm from the UK and i watch The Sex Education Show whenever it's on tv, and i always think of Scarleteen when i do haha. I think it's hugely informative and it's so amazing that they want to educate the teenagers of today, and i think all in all, it is a really good show. However, there are some things i find it doesn't address, like self-checks and things like this, which i believe is so important but either way i love this show.

Hi Megan, that's good to know. I can't watch the whole episodes from where I live, but my friend had linked to one segment on sex and disability, which was quite cool. Do you think they address issues for queer and trans people?

Im FROM the UK, but I only go back home to London for the holidays in winter, so i haven't really seen alot of our TV. I think thats odd actually that it exists, but Im American-ized, the newest UK Show ive picked up is the new Doctor Who (And My Little Pony played a hand in that one, "Doctor Whooves" anyone?) Yeh, i'm a brony too.

I found the sex education show really hit and miss... the disability segment of that episode was actually great though! It would be cool if all segments of the show were like that. But for example in the same episode, they took a load of students and showed them especially ugly photos of sexually transmitted infections on people's bodies... as a method of sex ed, it might be common, but it's not actually effective... Then they also showed a load of parents a load of 'shockporn' telling them that their kids had seen it online and encouraged them all to put filters on their kids phones and computers, and track what they do. Which as far as I'm concerned really infringes on privacy, achieves nothing and makes a crapload of money for net-nanny software. And ended the segment with "See parents do know best"... which honestly depends on the parents! When it's on TV, UK sex educators have to get all over twitter correcting all the information as it comes up... On the other hand it does approach some rarely tackled issues. Which is great, the intergenerational chats, and the fact that it actually depicts less mainstream relationships (although a tad tokenistically!) is good I guess. I just wish it took its' time, went into more depth and was better researched. [ 06-01-2012, 10:47 AM: Message edited by: Jacob at Scarleteen ]

That's awful, and I bet there's loads of people who'd say it's acceptable while being opposed to the new proposals for increased government snooping as well.

Interesting to hear you guys' thoughts. I felt the small part I watched was a bit sensationalist (like what you mentioned about 'shockporn', Jacob) although they did do some good educating too.

Yeah, what's also really annoying is how many cool sex educators there are in the UK, who are often asked for input into the show, so the show can say they've 'consulted experts' (even if increasingly they've not listened to what the experts have said!)... a really great show could be made with all the resources and contacts they have. but unfortunately: sad face [ 06-09-2012, 04:46 PM: Message edited by: Jacob at Scarleteen ]
