I'd like to start a thread for conferences, talks, panel discussions, etc. on sexuality and sex-related topics here.
Here's an upcoming academic conference in the beginning of February in Berlin, Germany. It's called "Performing and Gendering Sadomasochism" and its aim is "to analyse the specific quality of the performance of power and control in sadomasochistic subculture, including its adaptations on the Internet, in arts, literature, film and performance art." The link for the program flyer (a PDF file) in German and English is as follows. Just as a head's up: I'd rate the flyer as PG-13 because its content and terminology are straightforward but not in-your-face. But some people might not want the SM-garden gnome popping up on the screen. www.performing-and-queering-sadomasochism.de/ I'm planning to attend and will share how it goes! Anyone been to any conferences or talks lately? [ 01-18-2007, 11:16 AM: Message edited by: Ecofem ]

Reporting back on the aforementioned conference: I ended up only attending one session due to scheduling and was a bit disappointed (seeing all the different people there and what they were wearing was mighty interesting), but I'm sure the conference was good in all in.
It seems that sex workers are an unofficial en vogue topic for German museums nowadays; after seeing this great exhibit last year, I caught this thought-provoking one yesterday. Anyone else gone to any readings or talks or exhibits? Discuss a particular risque scene from a Shakespeare play in class? Attend a good campus student health talk? Visit an art gallery featuring an artist who dealt with sexuality in some way (be it controversial 200 years ago )?

I gave a campus student health talk last night - it was a lot of fun, as it tends to be. The kids were a good mix of curious and a bit nervous, so there were some good anonymous questions to get the ball rolling, then people asked either related or unrelated questions out loud.
I spent the first bit on how to properly use barriers and STI prevention information, but after that we discussed everything from what's okay to use as lube, to what the date rape drug can make you feel like/do, to how various forms of hormonal birth control work.
