not sure if this is the most appropriate forum for this..if not, please bump it elsewhere...i'm looking for really good, up-to-date accurate and clearly written books about hormonal birht control, but particularly about birth control pills.
i have heard that there is one book that is *the* reference...but i don't know the name of it. can anyone help me out?

In a quick search of Amazon.com, the most likely candidate I found was All About Birth Control: A Personal Guide , by Jon Knowles. Pros: It's put out by Planned Parenthood, and thus is almost certainly a reliable source. Cons: It's copyright is 1998, so it may be a bit outdated.I know when I was researching such things a few years ago, I went to my doctor and she kindly looked up and copied the most recent information she could find for me. I would guess that a doctor or Planned Parenthood clinic would have access to the latest info, although it might not be in book form.

I was wondering about websites that were a lot more in depth about the pill. I looked at some sites but they really didn't say too much. I want to know for reasons other then birth control.------------------ When God created man she must have been drunk and horney-wiccan bumper sticker

[B]I've read that book and although it is slightly outdated, the information in there is very accurate and easy-to-understand. Everything is presented very matter-of-factly and without bias. Like each method of birth control has it's own section, and within this section the book talks about how to use/obtain the device, pros and cons and reliability, any specific problems related to usage, etc.
It gives a really detailed look at many methods of birth control, but from what i remember it did not focus specifically on hormonal methods and the pill. So if that's your main interest, you may want to try another book.
Hope that helped!

Hi celtic, what exactly do you want to know?
I did a bit of research on the pill a while back, and while I didn't find the info on what I was looking for back then, I do know a few good websites with relative in depth info about the pill, even though books or your doc should always be your first choice.
So Celtic, why don't you give me some details and I'll see whether I can I have answers to what you want to know or know where to look it up. Plus there is always the PP center where I work as a last resort, too. So can I help you, gal?

Well, really, i was looking for more indepth reasons to go on the pill either then birth control, like the benifits. I keep trying to find some good sites but they only have point forms. Like.."-regular periods", etc etc.Thanks.

okiedoke. I'll see what i can come up with. Otherwise, if you are looking for an in-depth discussion and weigh-up of all possible cancer risks and benefits and the like, a fairly recent book would most likely be the best. But give me a day, and I see what I got, good?
