I never thought there is anything wrong with sex as long as it is positive. But Howard Stern, the homophobic loud mouthed creep? And I watched one episode of Jerry Springer when I was in the States. Half of the time, the shows was filled with 'bleeps'.
"Sex and the city" is banned in Singapore and I think we all know about MTV although we don't get some of the more explicit programmes.
But I think we are back to the chicken and egg question. Are the shows here because there is a demand for it? Or did TV execs create a demand for these shows?
Because if these shows were simply that offensive, people wouldn't watch, ratings would go down and the show would probably be canned.
Thing is, people like me bitch about the pathetic shows I watch on TV but I still watch them because I am lazy. Lazy to switch to another channel or simply because some shows are just captivating in their trash way.
Oh excuses, excuses.

i gave up on television. i watch about 3 hours a week at most: Simpsons, Malcolm and XFiles on Fox on Sunday. That's two hours there. Then, if i'm home, i'll watch Whose Line for an hour on thursday.sometimes my sister will send me tapes of south park, and my friends and i get together to watch that.
by and large, what i tune into has very little sexual content. if i wanted to see sex on my tv, i'd just go to Good Vibes and rent a porno. but i care not to, i'd much rather laugh.

Remember, television is not in the business of selling programs. It is in the business of selling advertising time, the sole source of income. TV advertising rates are dependent on the number of households a network or station can deliver to an advertiser. If these shows didn't attract a large audience, the advertising revenues would be small. It is interesting to watch "trash TV" for the commercials. What products/services are being marketed? To whom are they being marketed? How are they being marketed? This will give you an idea of the target audience for the show.If shows don't deliver the ratings of the target demographics, they get replaced by other shows.

Sex And the City really, really annoys me. Is it just me, or are these four ladies spending hours learning little tidbits that most folks already know?"A threesome isn't always a good idea." "Some people have cybersex." "Men and women, when having sexual relations, do not always climax at the same time."
Oh, please.
