Anyone else have cystic acne? My mom had it and now I do, which sucks. I usually only get one cyst at a time, but about every once a month a new one forms, just as the other is finally starting to go away. I'm fed up! My skin used to be perfect, I used to get such compliments on it. Now, it's like a battle every day with benzyol peroxide. If you do have it, how do you treat it? I think I'm supposed to go to the dermatologist, but my mom says that's a waste of her time. ------------------ "Do what you will, always.. Walk where you like, your steps... Thanks to askjeeves.com and thanks to medhelp.org I found out that cystic acne is a form of acne which results fom the bacterial infection of cysts deep within the skin. Generally requires treatment with antibiotics and other agents (Isotretinoin). Without treatmet cystic acne may result in scarring. It isn't really serious, but, if you don't want the scars or whatever emotional side effects that may come from it, then you should ask your parents to take you to a dermatoligist. If your mom doesn't have the money or time to get you to a doctor, then there really isn't anything yo can do about it (outside of offering to pay for it) since it isn't life-threatening or even a serious disease.
If I were you I'd just sit down with your mom and tell her why you want to get it treated and how it makes you feel. good luck babe.

really, it's not a waste of her time. dermatologists work wonders these days! there are tons of things they can do, and cystic acne can cause scarring that will last for a long time. i recommend heading to the derm. em
