I've been swimming for years and years, with no problem. But lately (twice, actually) I've had some problems . The first time, last Saturday, I was changing in the locker room after being in the water for about 2 hours, and everything got blurry. My legs hurt, I got a headache, and all the sounds faded and became demented. It lasted for a few minutes, and things got better, but I felt weak and lightheaded the rest of the day. I told my Mom, and she said I was probably coming down with something. But, 2 days later, I was swimming for gym (completely different pool). I began to feel lightheaded in the water, but they wouldn't let me get out. So I stuck around, and it slowly got worse. Finally, we got out, and I began to feel weak. I was changing again, and things went quiet and blurry. This time it lasted for 10-15 minutes. Now, I was wondering, could I be having a reaction to chlorine? I know I can't be diagnosed (dammit ) over these boards, but any ideas or similar problem? Thanks

Sometimes I get light headed, and dont feel when I swim. I dont know what its caused from, but usually I get and I feel like Im going to pass right out. Are you really entergetic in the pool? I mean do you swim laps in gym? Usually when we do that then Im about to pass out cuz I get light headed. Sometimes after I swim I have a little somthing to eat and it helps me out. I dunno why, probably because I lost all my energy.
I know this probably didnt help, but I just wanted to add my 2cents.
If it beomes a big problem go see your doctor and he/she probably can tell you if you are allergic to chlorine or not. I hope this helped a little!!

Umm...have you been swallowing the water or getting it lodged in your ears? That might cause a problem, though I dunno if it would do that necessarily.------------------ *I wish I didn't care, but I do*

I believe the lethal dose for swimming pool chlorine is somewhere between lots and huge enormous lots. [compound noun changed by the MizManagement] Its not like chlorine gas or a number of other chlorine compounds. It won't kill you - but don't quote me on that! I seem to remember reading something about people occasionally becoming allergic to chlorinated water after prolonged exposure, though.
What you're dealing with sounds unpleasant at best.
I'd suggest you go see a doctor, and possibly someone who specialises in allergies. (I forget the word...but I'm sure the unstoppably magnificent Gumdrop Girl will know!) [That'd be an allergist, ThisGuy.]

My spouse is allergic to chorine in swimming pools but that manifests itself as a skin irritation.I would definately urge you to follow the other's advice. If those blurry eyes and disorientation attack you while in the pool, it could be dangerous.

one more thing may be to consider that most people don't realize how much they sweat while they're swimming hard; in addition to all the other pointers, make sure you are drinking enough *fresh* water. ------------------ ~lemming, Scarleteen Advocate

Thanks for all the advice-my Mom is making an appointment with my doctor soon.Along the lines of exertion, there really isn't any at all. I teach lessons on Saturdays, so I just walk around in the shallow end. I did a few laps of freestyle in gym, but I was just doing them easy.
ThisGuy-my Global teacher mentioned last year that chlorine, in gas form, was used as a weapon in WWII. Now that was scary...
