Ok, I'm new to all this (so be kind) but I realise that I finally need to get this off my chest. I'm pretty sure I'm gay, but I hide it away loads, and very few people seem to have realised. The thing is that I don't want to hide it anymore. However, I just can't bring myself to tell anyone: my parents or friends.
Both my parents and friends are extremley homophobic. When someone in my school came out as gay, they completely shunned him, even though they were once best friends. My parents are homophobic and make rude quips whenever gay people are on TV. And, top that all off, they are Christians who take the bible very literally, as are most people in my family. I want to come out and be completely honest, but I don't know how to overcome these barriers that same to lodge themselves in my mind whenever I think out the truth. I could really use some help, no matter how small it is. Thanks.

[Selkie, thanks for posting those excellent links; Rurounityphoon, welcome to Scarleteen and thanks for expressing your solidarity. ] TheReubenator, very nice to see you, too! In addition to those message board links Selkie listed, have you seen our Gaydar section yet? If not, please do check out those articles and let us know what you think. I'm so sorry to hear that you'd like to come out (go you for wanting to!) but are not feeling supported and safe in your surroundings. We're more than glad to talk more about your personal situation if and when you want to share. [ 06-01-2009, 11:02 PM: Message edited by: Ecofem ]
