I would like to know a little bit more about the volunteers. See, I am 25 years old and I know some of the volunteers are 17 or so.. They do a GREAT job but it feels weird, you know? Please do not take it in a bad way but, does anybody here review the advices they give, or are they somehow trained or specially eduacated on this subjec?

Hey porte, I do know what you mean about taking advice from someone who is younger than you. The older you get though, the more people you tend to run into that ARE younger than you, and it gets less weird. Volunteers are picked by Miz Scarlet. We do review the advice we give, and never give advice when we do not know the answers are true. Some of us are specially trained in health and sexuality, but not all. You can learn more about a few of us here We also have and 'about us' page...Just need to find it. Feel free to ask any specific questions you have ... Depending how personal they are, i can't guarantee they'll get answered ETA: Found it! [ 01-12-2007, 08:14 PM: Message edited by: LilBlueSmurf ]

Also realize that as you get older, situations like this will happen more and more: when you're 40, you may have a 30 year old boss, when you're 60, a 35-year-old doctor, when you're 25, you can end up with a 20-year-old landlord. When we're really young, pretty much everyone who advises us on anything is older than we are, but the older we get, the more that range of age widens, and it becomes (as it kind of should always be anyway) a matter of who knows what about what and is capable of doing what, rather than how much older than us someone is. Since we're young adult advocates in general here, not just per sex education issues, we consider it a GOOD thing to have peer advisors who are capable: that's the goal. (Plus, really? Most of our volunteers are within around five years of your age --which is still your peer group -- and the site is intended to primarily serve young adults younger than you, so.)

I think you all do a great job here. Again, no complains about it. I was just curious, thanks for the info.

(One last thing: some of us have been here since our early teens and are now in our early twenties, so while we're not teens now, we certainly started out that way here. )

I think I'm the baby of the group (19 now, that link Smurf gave is a couple years old, hehe) I hate taking advice from younger people, which is why I find it ironic that I often give advice to older people. But the older you get, the less age tends to matter, too.
