This can be hard- depending on the person he is, if you try and talk to him he may brush you off if he's feeling down right now and that makes things more difficult to find out what you can do to help and what you might do to hurt.

Try talking to him and saying something like this: "I want to be here for you, but if you don't want me around right now just tell me so and I'll let you be, okay?"

Something to get the point across that you will be there for him if he needs you to be, but if he needs to be alone you will respect that wish too, that's about the best I think you could do for your boyfriend right now.

Losing a pet can be hard, but I think if you are there and he knows that you care, that will mean more than a lot else you might do.

Good luck.
