Hi folks,

I posted this on our social media today, and wanted to share it here.

It's hard to read. if you're a survivor of sexualized violence yourself, do what you need to do to take care of yourself, which may include not reading this.

This is a powerful letter from an activist in the Democratic Republic of Congo to an American reporter, whose definition of violence only included rape.

I think that this activist, in only a few powerful paragraphs, conveys a full picture of the social, cultural, political, and personal impacts of violence.

The writer of the blog where I found this letter starts her post off by saying: "Sometimes I read something that makes the movement of the world, the very air in the room, freeze to a stop."

That's exactly how I felt after reading this.
