For my entire lifetime up until now, I have been lucky enough to live in a country that has a public healthcare system, however now it seems as though it is going to disappear, as the conservative/lib dem coalition government is trying to privatise healthcare in the u.k., even though there has been vocal and widespread opposition from the public. I knew something like this would happen if they elected a conservative government (yes it's a coalition, but the cons are the ones with most of the power in this case), but even though I voted for a different party, they got in. So basically, I'm asking what everyone's thoughts are on this (particularly other u.k. posters). Please use this space to suggest actions that can be taken to preserve the NHS and/or talk about how you or others you know will be affected if this change happens. One of my biggest concerns is that this will be used as a way to impede abortion access, as has happened in the u.s.

Also considering Cameron is anti-abortion, I'm with you on the concerns, Jill. I didn't vote for them either! [Frown] Sorry for the unhelpful post, but I guess we all have to protest like the students, and all the parents suffering from the closing of Sure Start chilsdren's centres.

Aghhh I'm in Sheffield for a gig on the 16th! Maybe I can make it though, I have to go through London to get home. Do you know where abouts it is?

Central London: University College Hospital in Gower Street. Euston Square tube should get you there. It begins at 5.30 pm apparently.
