Incase you're not familiar, CBC radio is pretty big here in Canada and on CBC radio 1 they have all sorts of radio shows. The Current focuses mainly on political issues.

Today they had a great debate on about the use of condoms in porn, and the push for condom use to be mandatory in California. You can listen here: http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/episode/2010/12/01/dec-110---pt-3-condoms-in-porn-debate/

I personally would love to see more safe sex happening in the porn world. Let's make safe sex sexy too!

I would love to hear your take on this [Smile]

Edit: Forgot to warn ya, this discussion IS about porn, so it's not a PG debate. There is one clip from a porno, but it's not graphic, and neither is the rest of the debate [Smile]

I totally agree that safe sex is sexy, and should be presented as such in the media (movies, tv, etc). But, I seriously doubt that showing condom use in porn would do much good. There is so much in mainstream porn that is unrealistic (to name a few things: showing only men and women with certain body types, not showing partners discussing boundaries and preferences, not showing partners discussing STIs or pregnancy risk). Using condoms in porn would just scratch the surface of everything that is portrayed unrealistically.

I personally see porn as a sort of fantasy world and although I don't watch porn now, if I did, it would be to play out my sexual fantasies and not to learn about how to have good sex or good relationships. So it doesn't bother me personally that you don't often see the characters in porn using condoms.

Here, here. I've never watched porn and never plan to (just... ew), but showing condoms just seems like common sense, really.

The problem is, sure Stephen Harper can enforce all porn that is filmed and aired here uses condoms, but if someone were to go on the internet, they would find lots of porn WITHOUT condoms, which defeats the purpose. This should be discussed world-wide.

Love.
What a curious thing.
