Ok, well she was already in very high standing.
A little context. I am one oft he over 200 000 students who are currently on strike in Quebec in opposition to the government's proposed tuition hikes. My personal reasons for striking are that the tuition hikes will disproportionately affect women and queer youth, as well as several other groups of people who do not enjoy white, middle and upperclass, heterosexual, male privilege. But I'm not here to convince you that my cause is just. I'm here to gush over Judy Rebick
Judy Rebick came to visit me and my fellow stikers on our picket line wednesday morning. she was so wonderfully supportive, so full of positivity and encouragement. She told us that when she was fighting for abortion to be legalized in Quebec, there were only 20 of them and they changed LAWS. She openly challenged my university which has been increadibly repressive of dissent on campus. She's just my hero right now!!!
thumb tack: once, years ago, Judy Rebick said something very complimentary about me and the work I do and I very nearly LOST MY MIND.
I feel you: she's freaking amazing. She's one of my heroes, too.
