On Scarleteen I may have become familiar to the helpful staff for having had extensive problems starting with my long distance, long term boyfriend turning out to be a girl and becoming my girlfriend two years ago.
Now I feel something very important has come to completion.
I have come out to my family and they all have been supportive, accepting, and actually all rather taking it with a shrug; a kind of a "so you have a girlfriend, big deal, that's alright" laidback attitude. Might be because they all had kind of guessed it.
I feel so overwhelmed. I am so happy, kind of shocked, relieved yet somewhat boggled. I have kept this enormous secret with me for two years. I have cried numerous times wondering what to do should my family reject me. Guarding and shielding my secret relentlessly. And now, it's all okay.
All is okay.

That's fantastic news Cian! I'm so happy for you and your girlfriend. Must feel like a weight has be lifted away and you are walking on clouds?

Thanks! I'm very happy about this too. Now we'll only have to come out to my girlfriend's parents, but she doesn't feel comfortable doing that until she is financially independent. And I'm alright with that, her family still knows about me and they seem to like me, and that's enough for me for the time being.
My girlfriend is also planning on coming back for Christmas. I'm so thrilled!

I will have to bring this up just to celebrate our 7th anniversary. It's not been easy, but it has been wonderful. For any long distance couples, keep on strong. My girlfriend has also opened up to many of her friends who have been supportive and accepting, which I'm very glad about. Hopefully the trend will continue when she is ready to tell her family.
