I basically have had to make the realisation that some people are just not healthy to have in my life any-more... it hurts but it's also invigorating.

It also means I feel like I need to walk down the street with uplifting anthems in my headphones... the obvious choice is Gloria Gaynor singing I Will Survive. Listening to it right now and wow:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBR2G-iI3-I
quote:

Did I crumble
Did I lay down and die
Oh no, not I! I will survive!
Oh and as long as I know how to love I know I stay alive.
I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give.
And I'll survive!
I will survive!

And then when I'm feeling more pensive. there's Twist in my sobriety by Tanita Tikaram who is such an under-appreciated artist:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXSTe9YMCKo

quote:

Look my eyes are just holograms
Look your love has drawn red from my hands
From my hands you know you'll never be
More than twist in my sobriety

I think it was a running joke in the music press at the time that she couldn't explain her own lyrics, but I'm glad she didn't. To me it seems very much a cryptic personal story about moving on and telling someone they've hurt you, that they had control over you but now you're breaking free and this will just have been a footnote, a twist.

If anyone else has any songs like that, totally share them! So many good breakup songs and other stuff to choose from!

Cool thread! Thanks. I feel the same way.

* One of my favourite songs is "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister.

The video is funny and weird too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9AbeALNVkk

Video with just the actual song and lyrics:

* Another song I love is "I Want Out" by Helloween:

* Another song could be "The Power of Goodbye" by Madonna
