Quick question about condom use: If the condom has not broken or has no tears after intercourse, is there no chance sperm has got through? You are definitely not pregnant? Is there any truth in the stories about microscopic tears that sperm can swim through?

Hi La95,

No, it's not true that condoms have microscopic tears in them. Condoms are manufactured to be solid.

So long as you're using a condom that has not been damaged in some way after you've purchased it (such as from being stored next to a sharp object) you can know that it is going to come out of the packet without holes in it.

There is always some risk of pregnancy when engaging in sexual activities that can lead to pregnancy, but if a condom is used properly, and does not break or fall off, the risk is low.

Thank you!
How would a situation happen where there is a risk when the condom hasn't broken or teared? [Smile]

It's more that when engaging in that type of sexual activity, one has to always figure there is some risk. No matter how effective a birth control method is, we just aren't able to say that pregnancy *can't* happen. However, you can know that if a condom was used for all genital contact and did not break or slip off the chances of pregnancy are...well...about the same as those of finding a thousand dollars in cash just lying on the sidewalk. Could it happen? Sure, because anything can. Will it? Not likely at all.

If one of you gets pregnant after perfect use of a condom that also didn't slip off or break, I really hope I'm the one to find the thousand dollars. [Razz]
